for all the bomber unbelievers out there

here u go  ... proof that the bombing system can work.  Don't aim for a specific target, just draw a line across the base.  Follow that line, and whallah! Damage done.  I will say one thing though, I do believe that HTC should upp the OBJ value for hitting targets with level bombing.

There should be more targets at airfields to be hit; right now, even a 'major' airfield is way short on the infrastructure that would be needed to support the volume of air ops that you see between a pair of close-set small fields online...

What delay did you use to get that dispersion?  I can't read the screen shot.

Thanks

these are the settings.

Lancaster 14 x 1000 lbs
25% fuel
Alt : 12K above target alt.  (which was 0.) ( I bombed at 12K)
Speed at time of drop : about 170 mph.
(Boost pressure 9, any lower and you will start to lose alt very slowly.)

Salvo 14
Delay 0.7

I dropped just before the end of the runway that runs parallel to my line of bombs, also, I did not specifically target any hanger.
Instead, I ran my crosshairs inbetween the hangers.

One other note I would like to make, is there is a very easy way to tell if you have calibrated right or not.  After you calibrate, and get the green text, zoom all the way back out, and look at your shadow on the ground.  MAKE CERTAIN that your shadow is centered on your FORWARD-AFT crosshair line, and near the aft of your bombsight.

If it is skewed even a little bit, or is shown going in a different direction), then your calibration is not correct, and you need to redo it.

Also, if you exit the bombsight, and make a course correction, then you must redo your calibration again.  Slight course corrections inside the bombsight is not as bad, but don't make major corrections without redoing the cal.

More proof that bombing is not dead.

Innominate> That was from only one buff formation, you need to organise and get a few buff's together especially against larger fields. The old method was ridiculously easy and unrealistic. There is more than one way to hamper field operation than just take the hangars down. I still think a few tweaks are in order such as craters that damage planes undercarriage and also more targets at afield but so far bombing has never been so much fun.

Sure, if you get a fleet of bombers you can shut down a field.

But,

Get the same number of people in tiffies or 110's, and not only can you shut down the field, you can keep it capped.  Then bring a goon, and take the damn thing.  Not to mention that the tiffies or 110's will do it faster.

The problem with bombers is that a heavy jabo will do more damage than a bomber, against most targets, since virtually every target(excepting cities) require pinpoint bombing, and carpetbombing will hit mostly empty ground. The targets need to be made into carpetbombing targets for that to change.

Making craters damage landing gear would make buffs even worse than they used to be.   With a few small, well placed craters shutting down a field.

BTW, Precision bombing is quite easy once you get it right, the accuracy is not a problem at all.
