For you "very early-war" fans out there, the F4F-4 isn't very far behind the FM-2, and it looks even more cartoonish

Hey!  Be kind to my F4F-4!  She's one bad mofo even if she's slower than dandelions blowing in the wind.  On the contrary, that blue-gray color is beautiful and menacing!

I think the 2nd day after 1.10 came out some N1K driver with altitude targeted me in my F4F-4 for destruction but I was able to blast him at the top of a loop to my amazement (and I'm sure his.)  Now if only the film viewer would allow me to watch it again and relive my glory.  :D

How about "Hanging on a prop" if both have equal E?  Wouldn't the FM2 stall first? (I honestly don't know..)

I the 3 encounters I've had in my F6F the FM2 has been an easy kill, just like all planes that can out turn you, ya gotta play to your strengths, not his.

'tis a cute lil' plan...'specialy when it's spiriling to it's death :p

Yup, FM2 is surprizingly good. However, not a climber, so I guess the N1K2 would win the prophanging contest.
It turns very close to the Spitfire, maybe about like Spit9, but flying it I found that Spits are dangerous, for they can outclimb the FM-2, and they have cannons.
A good N1K2 killer is the HUrricane IIC, Spitfire V as well as FM-2
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

on a simular note...the Fokker Dr3 used to kick some bellybutton when it was allowed in the main arena in AW.

Maybe, but twin Spandaus in this arena won't mean a thing. Lookit the lowly 202 for more details.

FM2 is a great lil' plane. I fear nothing in it except Zero's. I relish going in after a Niki.

A few days ago I had a couple of fights with FM-2s at A24 of NDIsles.

I had just lost a Yak-9T to ship ack after killing a bunch of attackers. So I upped a Hurricane IIC. I had just finished off a damaged Seafire, when I spot an FM-2 and F6F headed straight for me. Well, I've got little E left, so I turn and head away, figuring that as soon as those guys close to shooting range, I'll out-turn them. Well, I break hard right, slightly nose down to retain some speed. However, the little FM-2 turns even tighter (much to my surprise), and shoots off my elevators! It was Markarov9 (I believe that I got another FM-2 earlier with the Yak).

Well, I couldn't let that stand.  I grabbed an A6M2 and returned the favor. ;)

So, being suitably impressed with the little Grumman, I have flown it several times since. What impresses me most is its ability to shrug off hits that would kill a B-17. While it doesn't carry a lot of ord, it'll haul six rockets and two 100 pounders, enough to do substantial damage to a town, VH or GVs. It's one tough hombre. Saw a squadie HO a 110G-2. He took a beating, but the 110 went down. He landed without oil, flaps, two guns, tailwheel and aileron. But, he survived, the mighty 110 didn't.....

You can still tangle with Zeros, but should one saddle-up on your six, well, you're probably going to die. Unless the Zeke has no cannon ammo left. Those 7.7mm are nearly useless against the Wildcat.

Don't know Rip.. never had one get the chance to just stand there for me to shoot.  I engaged one N1K2 when I had a considerable amount of energy and the N1K2 did not hold his as well in the turns.  I later engaged an N1K2 when we were both low on E.  He couldn't do anything to shake me... in the verticle or flat.

I got a Ta and a few additional scalps, even outturning a Spit. As already mentioned, the odd Zeke can give you trouble, but even then I didn't feel totally outclassed- just a tougher fight.
