PAL standard uses 625 lines of vertical resolution, NTSC (US) - something like 400. Even the cheapest of monitors is a better quality screen than the best of televisions (traditional design, not sure about digital screens). I could never figure out the TV out thing unless you're using your DVD drive as a DVD player. My niece/nephew got themselves PS2 for Xmas - picture quality is just dire on TV screen...
