Is the field town the answer?
« on: July 24, 2002, 09:43:18 AM »
Reading a few posts as it pertains to bombers and the new learning curve as well as bomb inaccuracy that was introduced in 1.10 started me thinking about the strategy of it all and what could be introduced.  Most, if not all, of these ideas have been proposed in some way by several different people.

IMO I believe the field town is probably the best answer to several issues that have been raised with the new area system and bombing model.  I think increasing the area or number of towns a field has can add a better target for strategic carpet bombing and a bigger challenge for milk-running undefended bases on the 512 map.

Increase the small field to 2 towns, medium to 3, and the large to 4.  Add a second VH inside the town limits as well as a few manable AA positions on buildings.  I do not believe the fields should be changed at all.  Although it appears there are several individuals having problems with the new bombing system I know of at least a few who seem to be doing very well with it.  Two nights ago I saw Jebo44 drop a CV on a single pass, head on to it, and sink the SOB (not to be confused with “SOB” ;) ).

I don’t think there is a problem with hitting pin point targets, I think it probably just takes practice.   I think having a large town area satisfies the need for a wide field of ground targets.  It will also quill the problem of 2 GV’s or aircraft being able to show up to an undefended field and take it fairly quickly.  At least the defense of a larger town with manable AI and a VH can have a chance when a sneak is detected along with the increased number of buildings needed to be destroyed.

Will it be harder for JABO, sure.  Would it be wise to add a few bombers to a mission to down the town while the JABO kill the field, why not?

Well, what do you think?

That would certainly delay the PacRim Bishop players from the conquest of Knightland until the North American Knight squads could get airborne.  It would also make it more difficult for North American Knightland players to recapture the bases lost to the PacRim Bishop horde.

Is it my imagination, or do the PacRim pilots fly the N1K2 in a greater ratio of players to plane-type than the North American players?
