Black Boxes for Cars
« on: July 25, 2002, 01:00:49 AM »
Saw this article on Nando. It describes a black box called the SafeForce.

Did a quick search and found the web page at http://www.roadsafety.com/

The article also references a box called the Smart Driver. Web page can be found at http://www.smart-driver.com/

The SafeForce looks like the cheaper option.

Anyone have any experience with these devices? I've got a teenager rapidly approaching driving age.

TIA...

Pardon me while I :D
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

If every car on the road had a box that would not start the car if:

A).  Intoxicated driver

B).  Seat belts not attached

Then the roads would be much safer.

Wasn't it Ford (not sure exactly) who used to have a model that wouldn't allow the ignition to be fired w/out the seatbelts buckled?  They removed it because of the annoyance... imagine just doing simple engine maintenance.

all cars had to have that "seat belt interlock" it was ordered by the US govt, it was only used for one year, it had 2 switches one in the drivers seat to tell when some one was sitting in the seat , 2nd switch in the belt, people just hooked up the belt and sat on it. yes , lots of prob with it , we were told to bypass the switches.

lawyers can't design cars

Another way for the government to try and controll us. I don't care for any of this black box crap.

I see it as abuse of our civil rights...

It's a private company selling boxes to private individuals.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the government.

Dunno about that, but imagine a "gun camera" like device while driving...sure would reduce the "whose fault was it really" for car accidents and such.

My thoughts exactly. This is a keeper. :D

My kid (almost 19) wants a car. My ex-wife wants me to buy her one.

I asked my ex, "she holding down a job?"

Answer "no"

"She off the medication she takes to keep her anger and mood swings under control??"

Answer "no"

"She save any money to put toward this car?"

Answer "no"

My answer was "I ain't buying her a car. Period".

Ex asks, "well; can she borrow yours when she needs one.. she can drive you to work and pick you up..."

I asked, "Why not let her borrow yours?"

She says "what?? thats a new car..."

You can guess my answer tho THAT one.

Ooops, was affraid I was being to vague lol.

See, cause EVERYTHING has to do with the Government, and a vast conspiracy to deprive us of our rights and freedoms, according to the Larouche worldview.

Sorry, I was handed a Larouche pamplet while at the Metro the other day talking about how McCain was in with the Mob, and that LaRouche intended to return the nation to leadership with integrity, that we have not seen since JFK. Irony isn't his strong spot that Mr. Larouche.

Anyhow, I promise to try to actually be funny in the future. (where have we all heard that before?_
