Put TOD on Hold
« on: July 26, 2002, 11:14:06 PM »
Guys/Gals, given the state of HTC's SEA arenas, I cannot in good faith request my guys to participate in TOD.

TOD and HTC have been so good to us that I just don't want to walk away.  But unless HTC resolves the SEA bandwidth issues -- something has to be done.

I have nothing but the highest regard for the guys and gals that form the CM corps.  By and large, it's a thankless task.  I fully understand the SEA situation is 100% out of your control.

Some of my guys fly TOD only - nothing else.  It's pretty disgusting to be killed by planes you don't see, or planes your 12 at d800 that warp to your 6 d400.

Please tell me that TOD is going to be placed on HOLD until the bandwidth issues are resolved.

Respectfully submitted,

AKcurly

I second that curly.  I cant expect my guys to show up only to disco repeatedly.

Your sentiments about the CM's and HTC are shared as well. Hopefully HTC will figure it out.

I discussed this with dad (curly) prior to his posting and agree completely with his post.

And a big thank you to the CM Team for continued successes on creating incredible immerseful recreations for us to take part in, this last TOD was not exception.

Yes that warp fest at the ijn cv13 12 sec was really bad.  I look forward to TOD every week its the most fun I have. Sure hope HT can solve this problem soon. It seems that TOD has simply grown too big for the sea arena.  I sure would hate to see it cancelled or posponed but it really isnt a playable arena right now.
=S= to the cms on the thankless job they do.

btw it is broke lets fix it:D

I am inclined to agree. Large realistic-style events NEED stable connects and low amounts of warping far more than something like the MA does. I suspect the bandwidth/warping issue to have something to do with why drone buffs were disappearing even when the lead pilots were flying straight and level and not even accelerating, in the Flames Over Malta TOD.

Failing that, might it be possible to swap the MA and the SEA servers over for the duration of TOD events?

Maybe I was the lucky one ?

Had no problems at takeoff.

Justa few TEST LAGS.

VOX Worked fine.

No real WARPS where i was.

Not saying things needs to be IMPROVED - THEY DO !

And some Squad mates had some connect problems - so problems are still there.

I agree, the last two weeks were the worst I've seen!  TOD is great, the CMs are wonderful, and AH is an excellent game, we just need to get the bandwidth problems resolved.  I'm afraid if the TODs continue as is, we will begin to lose some of the player base.

BTW, mucho thanks to GhstDncr last night for jumping in and setting up the Arena for us and pinch-hitting in the CM role.  It's guys like this, who sacrifice for the enjoyment of us all, that keep me coming back :).

Cya Up!

Yeah lag was a real problem last night. Even with the rolling starts I was seeing a 2 or more second text lag on my calls for IJN ESCORT GO GO GO etc.

Then I basically couldn't get the arena settings to load so I could shut down the fields until for about 40 minutes + after start and finally I suffered a CTD about 1 hour into the event.

Last night was very close to unplayable and unmanageable as a CM.

Although like Jordi, I didn't have any real trouble the last two weeks (except for last weeks merciful silence).

But many of my guys have had some pretty bad results. I have several Shills who've come out of retirement for TOD, and this is by far my favorite event in the online flightsim comunity.  We won't be pulling out of TOD yet, but I did want to echo the sympathies of those who have posted here already.

I too was dumped and had to cold boot to get back in.

However, since I was a little late upping I was in a prime location to bounce the TBM's on low approach and still have time to climb to the Vals coming in high... lol, they just kept warping into my bullets fer crise sakes! I had a blast!

The CM's are just as concerned about this as you all are, and I know that I am extremely worried about how the BoB scenario will go if we try to run it with the SEA in this state.

The CM's have an important face to face meeting with HTC planned at the con to discuss this and other issues. Stay tuned, we may have an announcement to make when we get back from the con.

The lag wasn't a problem here except for the takeoff(lot of warps there). But 2 min after that it was fine. I am lucky enough to have a cable connection and that probably helps alot. I hope the problems get resolved, I look forward to friday nights.

As banana and sling have posted we will meet with HTC at the con and go over all the problems we have been having in the SEA the last few weeks.

I know HTC has had some problems that have been unavoidable and difficult to deal with, but that does not change the frustration of players and CM's alike. Personally I see no reason to continue events until those issues have been dealt with, but that decision will not be made till after our meeting at the con.
