Have CTDs gotten even worse this past week for you too?
« on: July 28, 2002, 01:02:30 AM »
This past week or so my disco rate has gone nuts.  Very often AH will crash 6 or more times before I can even start a mission.   I start AH, log in, look at the map and within a minute or so... CTD while still in the tower.  I've been having this happen over and over.  Often a base switch or clicking on Hanger seems to cause them.  I re-start my system and still get crashes.  Most of my in flight discos have been on my first sortie of a session.

When AH works, however, I can sometimes stay logged in for a few hours.

I know this release is still buggy, as I've heard lots of complaints, but is my situation particularly bad?
Is anyone out there disco free?
Should I reload AH?
Anyone else out there gotten past this?
Any fixes?

Was on for a few hours tonight in the CT.  Nary a blink and the connect and fights were the best in ages.

I did however, defrag all my drives tonight.  Someone said that stopped AH misbehaving.  Ill report back later.

I'm getting allot of lockups. Some I can alt/tab out of, some I can't. It almost always happens when I sense/smell an FDB around and ride my wingless bird to our death. This is on a freshly formatted hard drive and OS re-install...go figure. Must be my new on-yek-board sound.

Eskimo, my assumption has been that most CTDs and screen freezes have been server problems.  I know that's counter-intuitive, but windows network code is so poor, malformed packets are liable to hose your client.

My proof is pretty simple.  Think back to other versions.  They ALWAYS start off with lots of CTDs & screen freezes.  Hitech releases a few client updates and the CTDs & screen freezes continue.  Later, as a few weeks roll by, the CTDs and screen freezes miracously disappear.

The CTDs and screen freezes go away w/o HTC updating the client code.  In other words, Hitech has fixed a server problem.

In this case, there's an extra twist!  Hitech has inserted additional code to prevent the invisible plane bug.

Hang tight Eskimo, it'll clear up soon.

BTW, miracle of miracles, I've had ZERO CTDs and screen freezes over the last two days.

I never had any CTDs prior to 1.10 being released.

I get alot of them now and it is at the point of being ridiculous. Had an 8 kill sortie going last night, lined up on the runway, drop gear ... BANG !!! to the desktop. :(

never had CTD problem until this release either...been fiddling with the view settings shift+f2 etc when my screen gets really icon heavy (seems to be when my CTD's would happen) and have been CTD free last 2 days. Not sure if that's just a happy coincidence or not.

My CTD situation couldn't get any worse. I am unable to complete a single mission. I cannot count on being able to finish ANY game play. The game simply dumps anywhere from getting to the tower to later after a few minutes. Yeah yeah I know it obviously is a problem with my computer as it only happens on AH....

It's not the net situation as the screen haas been remarkably flat on checking net status. It isn't DX8.1 or the latest vid drivers for my GeForce2 MX400 as I have updated both with no effect. It isn't a corrupt file in the update as I have deleted defragged then downloaded the entire game again (twice). I sure hope there is a fix soon as I am currently paying for a product I cannot use. :(

Unfortunately there has not even been a notice from HTC at all that they even acknowledge there is a problem. The silence is deafening.

I've never had trouble with CTDs and lockups until version 1.10. Since then it's been pretty bad. So yesterday I defragged my hard drive and tried AH (it was about 6:00 PM CDT). I got CTDs constantly one after another, sometimes as soon as I re-entered the game. It was so bad I had to quit playing. Later that night (around 10:00 PM) I tried again and played several hours with no problems (around 110 players per country).

Warps and lag was also bad, but when I did a trace route, I got nearly perfect traffic (like 100 traces at under 50ms every hop). I must conclude that it is caused by the server, and likely it's too loaded down with players. Lag and warps are so bad it's very hard to hit anyone, plus the warps always seem to occur just when the bogie is getting withing range. I'm hoping the new arena will help.

No.   I think I've only had one CTD since 1.10 was released.

Now....if I could fix my USB problems....
