That makes it sound even more network related hitech. Assuming you're connecting via lan rather than dial-up or broadband.

The con may be a good test. If no lockups for those present, sure would seem to be network related to me.

I can play for many hours without a hiccup and then get 2 ctd's or freezes within an hour.

My CTDs are completely random. I've had em in the tower, on runway, level flight with no cons nearby, climbout AFK taking a dump even.

The pattern usually goes, logon, have a few close together, gradually they get further apart til they're barely noticeable.

I could be wrong, but I think we're mixing two separate and distinct issues here.   Guys that are getting CTDs, are you getting the Host Connection Lost first, or is it just outright dumping you to the desktop?  The only time I ever get dumped to the desktop is on an outright disco, i.e. Host Connection Lost.

Now, hard freezes...  I get those here and there.  In almost every single occasion it's exactly when I switch a view.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=554588

If you're getting hard freezes, post your system specs there and where you got the freeze.

just from reading other posts on this, at first I thought it was an Nvidia issue, but Makarov says he's getting it with the Radeon 8500, although he says it's just CTDs for him and not hard freezes.  The one guy saying he's got no problems has a nforce motherboard.  Maybe everyone having hard lockups has Via 4in1 drivers?  That's why everyone who's having these lockups needs to post their system specs to see if there is a common theme.

My crashes have no common effect, They happen about once every 3 hours of playing or so.
There is no preliminary warning syptoms
The effect is a locked screen with the view still there. The computer has to be reset.
XP reports a failure of my radeon card when I restart and askes me to send the report to Microsoft, which I did i one case.

My system is an 1800XP on an ASUS A7V333 mother board
Radeon 8500 retail. Soundblaster live 5.1, Windows XP home.
Cougar controlers with gameport rudders.
My rate of crashes seems to match the rate of other assassins, someone is disapearing most every hour.....

The only thing I can think of is the new smoke.

One thing some guys might want to try is to play Aces OFFLINE and see if they get either freezes or crashes to desktop.

That would at least somewhat rule out if the bug is network related.

I've delt with these sort of flight sim bugs myself in development. They are the most difficult to find and often turn out to be related to some obscure part of the game code.

Plus, the usual Debug version of the game which has all of the bug flag asserts, and has a much larger .exe file size, often runs perfectly. It can drive a developer nutzo.

Recordings can sometimes be helpful in debugging some games. I'm not sure if the Aces recordings would be able to be read after a CTD or system freeze. High Tech would know about that.

If they can be salvaged, then maybe a recording could be played through the Debug version of the game and caught. Just speculation on my part though.

I've had 2 lockups with v1.10. Once in an M3 and the other attacking a bomber formation. 2 lockups for me is the most I've seen in a couple of years in AH. It is not a problem for me because of the infrequency that it happens.

BTW, I'm on dial-up and I get the switching to TCP message.

CTD's and freezes always seem to happen with a keyboard or joystick button push. Always for me in a nose down position. Quite a few have been on final or banking to the left. Freeze with an audio loop. CTD's are right to the desktop.

No warnings, no lag in the text buffer or stuttering visuals. My problems haven't been around bombers that I "know" of. Vehicles are a possiblility.

ALL problems started for me with the re-release of the small maps.

AMD Athlon 1.2 T-bird
Epox 8K7A+ MB
Via 4 in 1 drivers
512 2100 DDR ram
IBM deskstar 20 gig hard drive
Asus GeForce v7100 pro 11.01c Asus drivers
1024x768 32 bit
System, vidio card and modem optimized with TweakMe and NVmax
( not overclocked - running current setup almost a year )
Windoze ME with auto restore disabled
8.1 Direct X
CPU temp 101 under load - Case temp 75
Run "End it all" before each session
Defrag weekly - and after any download or file change

Mine are random CTDs.  I have had it happen when I click a runway button in the tower.  I have had it happen in the middle of a furball (in both a buff and a fighter)

I have had it happen in GVs and pressing the fire button on the Cruiser main guns.

I do hope you find it HT cuz it's unbelievably annoying.

I've had a couple hard freezes, but I can't remeber the circumstances. Only that those were the first ive had since i built this system about 8 months ago. As for CTD's they seem totally random. I have them flying, fighting, landing, in the tower afk. On land, in the sea, in the air, dosen't seem to matter.

When they happen there is no warning (that I've noticed.) One second I'm doing whatever, the next i'm looking at my desktop.

Thanks Crow. Humm. Random offline CTDs. Sounds like maybe the CTDs are game related and maybe the system freezes might be network related.

There's been some system freeze bug since 1.09. That bug was supposedly delt with in 1.10, but maybe not. With all the new features of 1.09 and 1.10 it's quite possible that we're looking at two different bugs. Maybe!

For you guys not familiar with how game programming works, basically the software runs through an infinite loop that generates frames for your video cards to display on your monitors. When something breaks the loop, suddenly you're looking at your desktop. When the loop hangs up, suddenly you're looking at a frozen frame, often with a repeating sound fragment.

What can cause either to happen? Just about anything.

My favorite cause. Cosmic rays! I forget which space probe it was, but one NASA probe computer kept having computer resets because cosmic rays kept hitting the computer RAM changing transistor bit polarities. Changing zeros to ones in some of the RAM kept messing up the software in RAM.

So, HT...blame it on Cosmic Rays. Anyway, I'll try the record thing. Maybe I can catch something. It's really an aggravating bug (or bugs).

Most my problems with lock ups, screen freeze, ect, happened with the new big map,was very happy when it rotated out,but then it rotated back, most people in my squad ive talked too, have said the "pizza" map messes with there system the most ,i personaly take a 40 fps hit on that map alone.
My .02 cents
