Last evening, the enemy had grabbed several vehicle bases close to our HQ. I launched out in a heavy F4U-4 for the two- sector flight (each way) to the nearest (to HQ) of these. When I arrive, I find that a Rook panzer and osti have killed the VH. I then proceeded to bomb the barracks and kill all the fuel. I then get howls of protest from the GV drivers for leveling the field. Well, too bad. Had someone responded to me earlier when I asked the status of the field, I would not have had to fly the 4 sectors round-trip. As it was, after killing that much time, I'm gonna bomb something. Note that the icon was not blinking, despite having Rook GVs there.
After that, I took a Wildcat (FM-2) from a CV and went to the next vehicle base. There I also found the VH down but no longer smoking, and a Rook panzer was nearby. However, an enemy panzer was also present. I put two 100 pounders on the tank (killed it) and rocketed the barracks and fuel. At least, if we didn't grab this field, it would be unable to dispatch troops for a while. Again, the icon was not blinking.
Still later, I visited an enemy port with an F4U-4 and leveled the town. A few minutes later, I get a request to come back and level the port itself as the ack was killing troops in parachutes (they should landed the goon on the far side of town rather than drop them, outside of ack range).
Airfields are a different problem. If overpowering numbers are present, than fuel, ammo and barracks should be spared. However, as Rip points out, if the issue is in doubt, flatten everything to prevent a counter-attack. Naturally, if this is a spoiling attack, fuel, ammo and barracks are the primary targets.
My regards,
Widewing
