Whales stranded on beach in Cali!

Which is why they weren't from the West Coast but rather the East Coast. Damn, Hblair, don't you know that Cape Cod is on the EAST Coast?!? I've been driving up and down the WEST coast all day, frantically looking for a whale to give a sponge bath to, because you said Cali and all this time you were talking about a bunch of EAST coast whales. Grrrr, Hblair, let me send you a geography book.

lol elfie, I wasn't paying too much attention to the story. :)
Karnak, it wasn't third tier early this afternoon, it was the main thing. They'd cut in and say they were on a story about a derailment then go back to the lost pilot whales. CNN's conservative? :)

Liberals have a very strong affinity for whales (think Rosie O'Donnell).

Give the whales all the press you want. I'm just glad there isn't another child abduction/molestation/murder story this week.

A bunch of whales try to commit mass suicide.
Some amazinhunk humans throw them back in the water.
So the whales try again.
And we're going to try and put them back in the water.

How would YOU like it if you tried walking out into the ocean to kill yourself, and some whoopeeed whales kept pushing you back onto the beach?

Whales have been beaching themselves since before our ancestors began living on the ground.  This is a natural phenomenon;  tragic but fairly commonplace.

Why is it that humans cannot leave the natural world alone?  Either we're destroying it willy-nilly with urban development and sprawl, or we're attempting to prevent "tragic" natural events.  We attempt to save whales that would normally die or we try to put out natural forest fires in order to "save the trees."

I wonder how the natural world managed to survive for so long without it's human caretakers?  Many plants and trees have adapted to natural forest fires and depend on them for seed germination.  The successful fighting of forest fires over the last 50 years has had a disastrous effect on our national forests.  Dead limbs, underbrush, and thickly packed and stunted trees have caused modern forest fires to burn much hotter that would normally be the case.  Seeds that would germinate in a normal, natural fire are now burned or sterilized in fires that burn hotter than 1000 degrees fahrenheit.

Nature doesn't always need a nanny.

A couple weeks ago I saw this poor women almost drown at the beach.  she was tired and done swimming but every time she tried to leave the water Greenpeace kept shoving her back in.
