) Was the primary ASW Chopper of the Soviet Navy. It, and the later model Ka-27 Helix (that's more like it) are still in use with the Russian navy today, I think.
The Ka-27 (Which looks almost exactly the same) is also used as an airborn radar for the Russians. It's usefull in Over the Horizon targeting, as long as it doesn't venture out too far from the fleets Air defences. They get their squat shape from the fact that they have no tail rotor, and instead use counter-rotating (contra-rotating? My latin is worse than my Russian

) blades to maintain stability.
