SB-Audigy / WinXP drivers.
« on: July 31, 2002, 06:45:41 PM »
I bought an Audigy Player soundcard and found myself in a deep doodoo with WinXP. Every time I tried to start computer all I got was a blue screen... nice.

After little searching from web I saw a site which said that drivers installer disk has are for w2k and doesn't work too well in XP (yeah I noticed that already...).
Driver update from Creative will install itself only if you have older drivers in computer already. i.e those drivers which gave me BSOD's.

One site I visited said it's possible to extract driver files from that exe-file by using a winzip. I did use WinRAR to check what that file has inside and there it was: a folder named "Drivers".
I extracted that folder to my hard-disk and installed drivers "old-fashion" way (pic)

(Good
site btw)

Creative cards work great but by God what a pain to install.  Sometimes it is best to do an OPSYS reinstall and install the creative software first (especially before the video drivers).

It is especially maddening that creative customer support is of the lowest caliber so you are pretty much on your own.

Audigy card itself is really nice if compared to my old SB-Live.
Now I can turn the volume knobs to the max and can't hear that background noise which was quite bad in my SB-Live.

btw before I installed Audigy's XP drivers I did remove old drivers from add/remove programs, I did search files with texts Live or Creative in it (no other products from creative in my comp.) and did same to registry also with regedit.

Computer works great now.

I advise anyone installing a SB Audigy in a Win XP system to follow Staga's procedure to the letter!  I didn't, and ended up spending three hours getting the damned thing working.

I ran into the same thing.  hours of headaches and ended up doing it the same way staga did.

hated the initial install. love the audigy card.

the level of sound detail is amazing.
