yeah Neil Pert (sp?) from Rush is an awesome drummer, and I'd have to add  Keith Moon from The Who to that list as well,  I dunno how technical he was really, but man Looney Mooney was a maniac back there. :)

Pert is the most proficient rock drummer.  

John Bonham was the man though.  :D

Neil Peart.  Although the recent song writings of Lifeson and Lee have not done much to showcase his talents.

The "Neil Peart - A Work in Progress" DVD is too cool.  I would recommend it for any advanced drummer.

Best I ever saw.. Chester Thompson who did the live shows for & with Phil Collins when Genesis toured. He was incredible.

Neil Peart.  

The key word about Bonham is "effective".  To me, he was the right drummer for Zep; don't know how he would fare in a different type of band

I dunno about greatest, but Matt Cameron of Soundgarden and now Pearl Jam fame is a damn fine drummer as well.
