Hat Switch programming in AH <Saitek>
« on: August 01, 2002, 09:40:02 AM »
This is my excerpt from another post, but I am no closer to finding an answer.

Here's my next problem. You all say you have been able to setup the #1 Hat with views within AH stickmapping program. I cannot get that to work and here is why.

B9 is Mode 1 switch. (B10 mode 2, B11 mode 3) One of these buttons are always pressed, and therefore I cannot map my hat switch. How did you guys figure out the way around this, or am I not mapping the Hat switches correctly?

First, on the main Setup screen, Click on Joystick.

On the Joystick screen, Click on Select Joystick.

On the next screen, In the AH Control list, Hilight Hat 1.
Next, in the Joystick list Hilight your Saitek stick.
Then in the Joystick Input list hilight Hatswitch.
Click the Set Input button, then the Apply button.

Nxt I'd recommend that you scroll down the AH Control list and Hilight Button 9, make sure your Saitek is still selected in the Joystick list, and in the Joystick Input list, hilight .
Click Set Input and Apply.
Do the same thing for Button 12.

Finally, click the OK button.
Now on the Joy Stick screen click OK.

Back on the main Setup screen you can now click on the Stick Mapping button and check to see that AH now recognizes the lower hatswitch.

If you disabled, Buttons 9 and 12, they should no longer interfere with your ability to map other buttons as needed.

I found the mode switch and aux switch on my x36 kills the stick input, so I put them both on 1 and never touch them.

This is under w2k with saitek's w2k drivers.

Kronos, Furious -

I'm running XP Pro, and the USB X-36.  The method I outlined works like a charm for me.  Are you guys using Gameport versions of the stick?  Or a version of OS that allows the SGE?

I do lose Mode 1 and Aux 1, but I still have Mode 2 and 3 as well as Aux 2 and 3 as well as all the other buttons (and the other 3 hats as 4 button switches) this way.  Only thing I haven't figured out is how to get much use out of the rotaries and the throttle rocker since I have rudders as well.

Im Guessing Dwarf, but are u using Dhauzimmer's drivers, or Saiteks drivers that work with XP?

With XP, SGE no longer works.  the new profiler is out called SST, but it doesnt support hat programming yet.

I am using Saiteks, but I don't see how that makes a difference.
I did try exactly what u said dwarf, and it wouldn't work for me.  I've been in contact with Saitek's customer support, supposedly this month a new version of their XP profiler is coming out, with support for mapping the Hat Switches.  That by itself will solve my problem, however, I am flying blind in the arena now, cause I cannot seem to map the LOOK UP view to my hat.  It's very frustrating.

On a side note, your using rudder pedals aswell as x36 under win XP?...  are the rudder pedals USB or analog?

USB pedals.  TM actually -  from my Nascar Pro II wheel.

No drivers at all. Just the support built into XP.
[EDIT]  To be more specific:
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 07/01/2001
Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows XP Publisher

Clicking on the Driver Details button gets a message that no drivers are required or have been provided for this device.

Device Manager just lists 2 HID compliant game controllers and
2 USB Human Interface Devices in the Human Interface Devices group.  No entries for the sticks in the Sound, Video and Game Controllers group.

I use the pinkie slider for the UP view and just use the hat as is  for the snap views.  And it combines with the slider for the UP snaps.

AH sees the stick as Saitek X36 and lets me assign AH buttons and functions to whatever button/axis/etc I wish.

Like I say tho, the other 3 hats are just seen as 4 buttons each.
The rotaries and rocker are properly identified in the Joystick Input list, but finding functions/buttons to assign them to in the AH Control list has been elusive.

that explains it right there.  You don't have the view "UP" mapped to look up on hat number 1 either.  Which is what I'm trying to do.  See if you can map it, I don't think you will be able to.

I use the pinkie slider for selecting weapons, although, I probably could re map for the time being.

Sure can.

In Stick Mapping > View Keys > Look Front Up
Hit the Up position on the lower hat - Up should hitlight on Hat 1 - hit Set Button then OK

Went to the pad and checked.  Hat 1 UP now gives me the 45 degree Forward Up view.

[EDIT] Works for straight Up as well.

huh.   Thats where I run into my problem.  The program won't recognize when I press up on the hat.  If I press button a on the controller, then the corresponding button in ah's stick mapping will show depressed.  But when I press up on my hat, nothing happens, even after I've done the steps you described above.

I know its not a defective hat position, because it worked with the old SGE software.  It's only now that Im in XP that its being affected, and only that position.  I can still look right/left/and back, as those are pre-programmed into AH's hat views.  Pressing forward under AH's pre-programmed views, simply looks straight forward.

Did you disable the Mode and Aux switches, or is Button 9 still always on?

I edited my stick.cfg and disasbled those buttons to setup all other buttons. Then I re-enabled them and mapped them to actions......the only other thing I do If I need to remap something is hold the new button down while I click set button
