Author Topic: Why is the Mossie seen in small numbers? (Read 195 times)

A query after 3 months of AH. My fav plane at present is the Mosquito. It seems ideal for light Bomber attack work in the same way as the Tiffies or P38's only better.

I have only seen them in numbers outside my Squadron of 2 or less, yet ive seen waves of Tiffies and 38's.

They carry 4 x 500lb'ers and make short work of an enemy town.

Is there a reason this plane is not seen in large numbers?

typhie and p38 are a better platform after your bombs are away on target.They can switch over to fighter role, whereas the mossie is easily killed by the hordes of niks and spits and la7s.

the mossie is about as survivable/usefull as a me110g2 so you should expect to see them in roughly the same numbers, which you do in the MA.

to be honest i think the a20g is now a better bet than the mossie.It carries 4000lb and has nice forward guns and is reasonably fast and fairly manouverable.It also will be chewed up by fighters mentioned above but its a lot more durable and obviously 4000lb is better than 2000lb.

Mosse is a good fighter, shoots .303s at around 750 mph

Plus the cannon shoots at 450 (?) and its fast too

Mossie is serviceable in Air to Air combat, but not on the level of the P-38L or Typhoon.

When I'm in a P-38 only one fighter ensures my death, the La-7.

When I'm in the Mosquito (my most common ride) the La-7, F4U, Typhoon, La-5FN, Bf109G-2, Bf109G-6 and Yak-9U have the same effect.

The Mosquito is markedly more survivable than the A-20G. The A20 is tougher, true, but it is slower and far less manuverable. The guns on the A-20G are not nearly as good as those on the Mossie either.

The Mosquito is also at a disadvantage going up against adversaries it never had too.

In a late 1943 envirnment it would be far more useful and common than in the 1945 environment we have in AH.

most of the minorty planes like the mossy are seen in small numbers because the role that they are designed for in not available in AH as yet..mosquito was about the most adaptable plane during WWII serving in many roles..in AH the spectrum of mission types is so much narrower than in real life..

Gotta disagree with you on the n1k/spit horde thing, hazed. When i fly the mossie i can hold my own against these easily, if you get in trouble just extend. The la7 is another matter- as are all the late war monsters.

The nose mounted hispanos are killers too.

The only thing i find irratating is it's durability. It seems to be very weak- not like what i've read in books.

My experience is the same as thrila's. Including the fragility that does not match its reputation for durability.

I've found it to be quite tough, which is one of the reasons I've flown it almost exclusively the last couple of tours.

However, any stick movement, no matter how slight, during compression causes the elevators and/or rudder to seperate from the rest of the plane. Using manual trim doesn't.

And the pilot seems to get hit every 2 of 3 sorties. More so than any of the other planes I've tried.
