Hortlund remarked in the "Performing Songwriter" thread that Springsteen was one of the best and how the live version of "The River" gives him goosebumps.

What songs do that to you? What songs give you goosebumps or chills or stop you from breathing?

I'm with Hortlund on "The River." The monologue at the beginning is wrenching...

Others on my list:

Sheryl Crow, "The Difficult Kind"
Third Eye Blind, "Wounded"

Trying to think of others...

"Something About England"
-The Clash, from "Sandinista"

"They say the immigrants steal the hubcaps of respected gentlemen,
it would be wine and roses, if England were for Englishmen again..."

I grew up in the Ozarks of Arkansas and hearing "Dueling Banjos" along with thoughts of Ned Beaty always gave me the bizarre feeling, including goosebumps.

There are certain songs that I consider a "religious experience". My kids will automatically shut up when these tunes come on the radio.... ok, thats a lie,.... but I tell them to shut up, or turn up the volume to ear splitting levels.

Free Bird - Play it really loud
Back in NYC by Genesis - Even Louder!
Live version of Roundabout by Yes - loud again
Can You See the real Me -The Who Quadrophenia (listen to that bass!)
Live Dixie Chicken - Little Feat

Not so Loud:

Anything by Jackson Browne
Circle Game - Joni Mitchell
Bridge Over Troubled Waters - Simon and Garfunkel
Send in The Clowns - Judy Collins

Ditto on Little Feat. Their live version of "This Land Is Your Land" gives me goosebumps and now that's my weekend getaway anthem.

The Star Spangled Banner.  :)

Entire Florida State University pre-game show.  Especially when Miami or Florida is visiting.  Though this year, we get Notre Dame at home for the first time.  I will admit that it was better playing it than listening to it.  Scary, ask me what I miss most about being in college...  the 2 hours before kickoff of a FSU home football game.

hmm...  Finale of the Firebird Suite gives me goosebumps too.

oh, rock.  dunno...  Good Vibrations, The Beach Boys.  In My Time of Dying, Led Zeppelin.    oh yeah, that's the ticket!

Cats in the Cradle....especially since my boys came along.  Corny, but true.

Shuckins...Beetoven's Fifth is strictly reserved for ultra violence...not goose bumps....geeshh

Curval, wouldn't that be the Ninth?  (if yer referring to Animal's favorite movie that is.)

Actually any of Ludwig Van's stuff would be relevant...I have had a change of heart actually....Shuckins is not wrong...goosebumps can cause all the hair on one's "plot" to stand up...so technically he is correct.

Sorry Shuckins.
