Stupid Dumbo rudder pedals question
« on: August 06, 2002, 02:36:50 PM »
Hi All,
I'm sure everyone else had already figured this out but.......

I just realised I can map the Throttle & Brake pedals of my steering wheel to the rudder inputs and keep the stick for everything else, Hey presto rudder pedals for free :)

OK Stupid question time. Which way should they work? should pushing the left pedal turn me left or right? (& vice versa for the other pedal). Stupid thing is I have actually had flying lessons in the dim and distant past but can't for the life of me remember which way around it was

Thanks in advance

Left is left and right is right.

You'll probably have to invert the axis for the pedals.

Thanks Dwarf,
Yes I had to invert the axis but seems to work great. (Whole new ball game though, but I'm sure it will come eventually).

I started in AH with a set of thrustmaster racing pedals.  At the time, the option to reverse the axis was not available.  So i learned rudder pedals that, push left pedal: nose goes right, push right pedal nose goes left..

It didn't take long for the reverse axis option to appear, but by this time, i had got so used to doin it my way, i left it alone.

Now i have CH pro usb pedals, and still usem the same way, try it, you may find it preferrable.

Hi Skurj,
Yes after my 1st night trying to get the hang of this wonderful new experience it does seem more natural to have them work like "Bike Handlebars" (Push Left = Turn Right). Mind you I seemed to get my bellybutton handed to me with great regularity last night which ever way round I tried it.  The hardest thing is to remember the pedals are there, I still keep twisting my stick rather than using the pedals at the moment but hopefully that will come with practice.

I have pedals (CH Pro USB) with my Cougar and have the same prob. Very expensive footrests! The problem for me is that the pedals have very little resistance compared to the stick.  I was used to  a twisty stick sidewinder before and like you am getting my balls in my hands to play with all the time (Rank 3000 and something). It is GRADUALLY getting better though.
