Announced yesterday by local press was the decision by the Tampa Sports Authority (responsible for events at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) that folks going to Bucs games would be subject to a frisking before being allowed into the gates. The measure passed by a vote of 6-5.

A radio talk show brought up an interesting point. If a terrorist wanted to make a statement, then the throng of football fans waiting outside the gates in the open would make an inviting target.

A measure to approve the use of metal detectors has not yet been decided. The overriding concern? Cost of installation, cost of maintenance.

Its a good thing I prefer to watch sports on tv at home.

No, no. Those weren't the cheerleaders. Those were the security guards practicing their martial arts.

Seriously though, I can see the need for the pat-downs, but the metal detectors should've been set up for vote first, since they'll have the greatest benefit and the greatest expense.

yeah right. the pat downs aren't really there for fears of terrorism. That's just the official "excuse" to do them. The real reason for them is to find all the drinks and food the fans will bring in so they can get sloshed/fed without paying $10 for a hotdog or $15 for a beer!

Heck they've been frisking us for years at FSU games. You just have to hope they don't pat you down hard enough to make that ziploc of whiskey pop (doh!).

Man, I thought us Gators were the only ones that did that! Those ice-cold Cokes make great mixers, don't they!
