I've just released a utility that allows you to unpack and then repack the contents of the Jane's WWII Fighters in-game data archives. These archives contain all of the plane skins, cockpit graphics, object textures, terrain tiles, plane, object and cockpit 3D object files, flight model coefficients, object movement coefficients, museum interface images, text, captions and descriptions etc. In short, the whole enchilada.
Most of these files, apart from the 3D model data, are stored in bitmap or ASCII text and can therefore be easily edited. Once edited, they can then be repacked back into the archives and used in the game itself. The end result is that almost everything in the game can now be customized.

EEK! reverse engineering? erm isn't that illegal in most countries under copyright laws? would Janes be just a little angry if another flight-sim company copied bits out of their code?

I suppose there is one way out of this and thats if the HTC team moved to Finland or Russia where certain people don't respect copyright and intellectual property

actually it hasnt been reverse anythinged...

just a player created an extraction utility for all the compressed stuff in it.

kind of like falcon4,eaw,flanker2 etc.

after looking deeper into it more it seems the utility is mostly for flight model editing, texture editing etc.

yeah finaly we can create our own textures for ww2 fighters
This works for boxed games, but its nothing for online simms.
I remember when i created my own textures for Hornet Korea, it was fun.
Some People still trying to find out what format the 3d objects are in ww2 fighters(planes, cocpit).
If they succsed we will be able to create our own Planes, like for SDOE.
