quick bombing question
« on: August 08, 2002, 01:19:27 PM »
Just wondering if your plane alt and drop alt are different do you have to drop early or late depending on if the plane is hi or low of drop alt.

Example last night in the CT in a ju88 bombing HQ as I make minute adjustments to flight path to line up targert while in bombsite my alt plane alt changed I was 7ft(some times I have been as much as 21ft hi to 18 ft lower than drop alt) usually less than 10ft off either way i will drop anyway over that i will abort run and try again

i am at 13k so i figure my speed increased a tiny bit also thus thinking i should drop roughly 1100 to 1500 ft early I was short of target with first 2 salvos next 2 hit the target .

Thus thinking that it does not matter if these numbers are off you can still aim right at the target and drop and hit with a good degree of accuracy ( only applies to cities and strat targets thats all i bomb )

has anybody else had this happen if so do you adjust drop short for lower that drop alt and long for higher than drop alt
or am i doing this backwards maybe my caculations are off a bit
or does this matter at all.

  Thanks in advance

Hi....

My biggest concern when buffing is ensuring that my speed is constant.  With that being said  I make sure I give the plane a bit to "normalize" to the throttle setting and the open bay doors.  I wait a couple of minutes for this at most.  Also check your vertical velocity indicator and make sure you arent climbing or descending.  When you calibrate make sure that before you start your alt is constant.

I wont change alt if the speed setting is constant so I dont worry about it.  Hope that helps....

bombsite will target whatever altitude you enter regardless of your aircrafts alt.  So yes you can change alt after calibrating.

The bombsite will not correct for changes in speed after calibration.

Above the wind layer, any course change after calibration will induce an error.
