I really need some help from all the tech wizards that frequent this board. I would really appreciate any response and you can e-mail me privately so as not to clutter up this board anymore than I am.

I am building a new computer system from the MB up. Everything is new. I am at the stage where the cpu and motherboard are installed in the case, wires are hooked up, HDD, FDD and CD-Rom are installed and connected. I have also installed the graphics card. Plugged the moniter in and walla...no boot up. I can't get the bios to the moniter.

Am I making any sense here

Abit BM6
celeron 466
CL Graphics Blaster TNT2 Ultra (agp)
Maxtor 10G HDD
Standard FDD
CL 52x Cd-Rom
LG Flatron 17" monitor

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pa

I'm not an expert...BUT...if you've never built a system with the new power supply you may not have plugged it in to the MB. I believe the board you have requires that. They're should be a place to plug in a "smart" powere input as one of the wires at front of case..sorry if I'm statingthis in confusing way..basically you plug powere supply in to board and a 2nd connect..two pin usually..then powere works.

Look on the back of the case and make sure the voltage switch is set to the proper voltage and that the master power switch is on.

Thanks for the quick reply Humble...
I thought you stated yourself very well

No, there is only one power header   ATX1  on the board, and it only fits one way so I know its not that...I get power to the rest of the drives also so the switch and lights are hooked up right too     I've checked those connections a number of times. I guess I'll start from the bottom up again and see if I've missed anything else. I should be able to get the bios with just the mainboard and cpu,RAM, vid card, keyboard and monitor connected. But all I "get" is a black screen.

Thanks again'

You might also try holding down the insert key while powering up,this a trick to set all bios parameters to defaults-hold the insert key down then turn the PC on,it may do the trick.

Sounds like the CPU aint initialising.

Couple of things:
1. Check the orientation of the CPU in the socket (make sure the corner marker lines up with the socket) asummuing socket 370.

2. Check and ensure you have set the voltage jumper (if it exists) to the correct voltages that the cpu is rated for.

3. Make sure that you have set the speed and multiplier jumper correctly to the correct speed of the CPU as per manufacturer specifications. This may not apply if you have a 'jumperless board'. Even if you do you normally have a jumper to turn this feature off and on. If there's an 'auto' setting try that.

Sounds very much like something an incorrect jumper setting.

Also, you were using static protection of course?

If you have an ethernet 10/100 baseT card installed remove it and try. If not then,,,,

<shrugs shoulders>

I had my pc do the same suddenlt about two weeks ago. It was running fine (which is not the case with you but bear me out) then would not run at all when i turned in back on.  After a couple of days of messing around ?I found the ethernet card, or the wake on lan option, was hosing my system up bad. Could not load bios at ALL. Nothing but a breif HDD hit and then a blank screen after a power up.

 Good luck!

Thanks to all who replied. I searched the board and schematics for any jumpers etc. that might have an effect but there doesn't seem to be any. (Like my BH6 board the BM6 has the softbios).

Spatula..I did have my muckers on..so I don't think I shorted out the board.....yet!

Switch on the back is set to 115v and the power up button and power light go on so power is getting through the board itself.

I am about to swap out the ram from this machine and try that...maybe a faulty DIMM.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions..frustration is setting in and suggestions from anyone are always welcome.

Well five minutes after I posted my previous message.....went up to try another boot and "presto"......the damn thing boots up ok!

It might have been the ram or vid card not seated properly...I had uninstalled everything and started from scratch.
