Hi All,

Just watched an episode of the excellent documentary "The World at War" on DVD. This particular episode (Pincers) ends with the allies crossing the Rhine. I was interested to see LVT2s being used in the crossing, but I was even more interested to note that they had 2 and not 1 .30 cal MGs (1 on each side).

So if the real LVT2s had 1X.50 Cal and 2X.30 cals, why don't the ones in AH?

I beleave the British had the 20mm Polistine cannon mounted on their's, whears my tank book........

yep, looked it up:

LVT, Buffalo: British version of LVT 4. Had Polsten 20 mm and 2 .30 cal Browning MGs.

Hey does anybody have a Picture of this, I searched for one but came up dry, my scaner is not set up and the book I have on this stuff, is in storage. I thought this would be a Great gun up grade for our LVT.

Hi Brady,

Thanks for the info. Some of the LVTs in the vid crossing the Rhein definitely had a 20mm in front, but... some had the standard .50 cal and 2x.30s on both sides. (1 on the left also had a small shield).

2 Questions:

1) Did American LVT2s not have the ride side .30 cal and if so why?

2) Regarding the 20mm it looks like it couldn't be trained high enough to be usefull for shooting at AC. Is this correct?

Seagoon, I have a number of good books on US armor ,but they are in storage:( and I no means to get at them quickly. So I am going from memory...

I beleave the Buffalow's 20mm was a purly British mod, I am not certain if it could be used for AA defense, although I suspect so.

I beleave US LVT's had the side 30 cal, but as I said I am not 100% certain.
