Finally I went straight...
« on: August 20, 2002, 01:51:47 PM »
and loving it...

Restoring 100-year old tools to perfect working condition where no modern gadget can compare...
Getting wide-awake in the morning without resorting to chemicals...
Using skill and dexterity instead of wimpy womanly leg-shaving contraption...
Giving my face the (manly) pampering it deserves...
Learning the fine points of honing and stropping...
 Discovering another female turn-on...

 I am da man!

Is a straight razor really that much better than safety razors?

fdiron: Is a straight razor really that much better than safety razors?
According to my wife it is. She also brought to my attention that my beard apparently got denser and even spread into the spots frostbitten in the army days. In the bland times when I was using safety razors I never cared to memorize what my face felt or looked afterwards - I only got awake when I strapped in for the morning drive to the office, so It's hard to compare.
There is more control - over the angle and edge (which you see - along with "working surface") and direction and pressure. While not micro-honed, the edge is insanely sharp. It does take some practice. It does take extra ten minutes - including hot compress, stropping and luxurious lathering with a brush.
But those are mundane technicalities. Do you wish the morning came sooner so that you can use your safety razor? Do you ever think "the heck with morning - I will shave now, it will still be good tomorrow?".
I am not up to that point (yet?) but others admitted offering to shave their wife's legs just to get a chance to wield that blade one more time... Or may be they wanted smoother legs?

I expected to save a bundle on disposable cartriges but now I can't pass an antique store without inquiring if they have razors (they rarely do). So far the most I paid was $18 for that ivory Wade and Butcher beauty but other addicts were known to spend a fortune. That's why I never look at e-bay - too much temptation...

Eagler: looks like you are set for your first three clones too :)
Don't even think about it! I need them all - it's my 4-day set and working towards the 7-day set.
When I die, my (or clones') children and grand-children will have them, not before.

P.S. Guys, I am serious about that turn-on thing... ;)

Wimp, I think I'll stick with my rusty knife and ice cold fresh spring water.

Seriously though, those are some fantastic looking razor.

I am gathering the hard statistical data on this phenomenon - especially the effect on girlfriends. For now I can only theoretise - but it sounds encouraging.

Come on, just remember a scene from your favorite manly movie - not that wimpy James Bond (who could feel at home discussing fine points of shaving with women - them using the same razor) but the real man - John Wayne for instance.
Isn't there some manly scene where he is shaving himself? Looks great, doesn't it, especially when he is bare to the waist and glistening with strategically sprinkled drops of water, his guns hanging from a nearby twig? Even the more numerous barber-shop full-clothed scenes are definitely as masculine as they come.

Now look at it from a woman's perspective - primitive, primeval, rugged - even somewhat dangerous activity requiring skill and concentration - performed with apparent ease and confidence. Certainly archaic. Definitely gender-specific and mysterious for a woman (and most men) - not one would ever dare think of using the straight razor. No question of sexual identity.
Now consider this - unlike shooting or wrestling or sweating profusely, shaving is the manly activity having to do with hygiene, soap, smooth nice-to-touch skin, clean smell... - all things pleasant to women's heart.

How can any woman resist such a combination? "Oh, let me touch... How smooth and silky... Off with your pants..." :D

steak knife?

henh.

ya popsicle.. real men use a weedwhacker.

gas powered.

ooooh rah.

that's right, gas. None of that electric toejam.

with a lil nitro, gas makes a kick bellybutton after shave too.

make sure yah use wifey-poo's towels to blot the excess.

drives them wimmen mad, it does..

hmm I was thinking more along the lines of "you'll shoot your eye out kid!"

Why not just wear a bowtie can call it good?

most men won't do that either..
