KG2 in TOD
« on: August 22, 2002, 02:28:15 PM »
Hi, all.

Just FYI, this Sunday TOD has caught KG2 very much by surprise. I certainly wasnt expecting the next TOD to be until after BoB, and I damned near missed the announcement of the TOD because I was concentrating on BoB.

Frankly, I'm NOT looking forward to flying both Saturday AND Sunday. I'm feeling burnt out from the amount of effort Ive had to put in on BoB (and as might be expected, offline life went mad about the  same time, so Ive been working like a loony practically non-stop on one thing or another for weeks).  I've also had to change ISPs in the last couple of days, and am still trying to get all my old contacts working again. I havent been able to raise my XO for a few days. I havent been able to let the bulk of my unit know that theres a TOD on, and I dont know how many are aware that its on from checking in here themselves. Add to that, when I changed my email address using the AH admin button, I screwed up, ,and so my new password has gone to a non-existent address, effectively preventing me from flying.

Right this minute, I couldnt tell you  if ANY of KG2 are going to be able to fly on Sunday - and even if I'm able, I dont particularly WANT to be doing so, not with BoB the previous day.  I'll do my best to contact folks, but I really think it'd be a good idea if this TOD was delayed by at least a week, preferably two.

Whatever, I beg the CM's sympathy if KG2 puts in a poor turnout in this one. With BoB  overshadowing everything else, we really needed more warning of the TOD game.

Thanks,

Esme

This was posted a week ago.

I expect the Sunday TOD turn out to be less than usual, but if a squad does not show up at all they are really fouling things up for those that do.

Aye, and being under the impression that there werent going to be any Sunday TODs until after BoB, and given the workload Ive had, I havent been looking in here very often. Havent had the time, aside from anything else...

I've now heard from my XO - also an FL in BoB-  and he doesnt want to fly games both Saturday and Sunday either.  We've had an apallingly huge task trying to ensure that we have (a) enough pilots for the LW Ju88s in BoB and (b) that those pilots understand that BoB will NOT be flown MA-style.  On the day we've two 2-hour frames to fly, with a gap between to allow for changes to plans for Frame 2. Add in getting into the arena ahead of time, and you're looking at nearly 6 hours online in AH on Saturday for those able to attend (which at this stage may well not include myself - account still not sorted out (which would preclude my flying the TOD anyway))

One of my pilots,  shortly after hearing he was only a reserve in BoB told me that he was off on holiday, and omitted to tell me when he'd be back. Another of our pilots has had various probs for some time and hardly been able to fly with us, leaving one WB veteran whom I havent yet heard from after emailing everyone yesterday.

Please understand - its not that we dont care about the TOD, it's not that we dont want to fly TODs generally - it's just too much to ask at such short notice with a game the size of BoB the preceding day.  No disrespect, but I think it was a very big mistake to schedule ANY TODs so close to or whilst BoB was on.

I am afraid, regretably, that it is unlikely there will be any pilots at all present from KG2 for this one. It's an interesting scenario, and one we'd like to fly,  but the timing is apallingly bad for us.

I am extremely surprised that such aspects were not taken into consideration when scheduling the TODs. I will protest if any punitive action taken against KG2 due to too much being expected of us under the circumstances.

(added in edit): had we known that TOD was scheduled for now at  the time of BoB registration, thus giving us the chance to choose to fly one or the other or both and plan accordingly, that would have been fine. As is, to spring this on us like this under the circumstances... it would be grossly unfair to penalise us. If the schedule is posted enough in advance so that we can plan ahead, I'll happily let the CMs know whether we're likely to have problems with attendance. I cannot do so at such short notice.

I don't expect too much. I do expect squadrons and C.O.'s to show up for the events they said they would. As far as I know no other squad was a no-show.

This weekend would be at least 3 weeks for you to plan and fly for the TOD. You have known when the TOD's take place for months and the BoB for several weeks. You did not have to fly for both frames of the BoB, but choose to. The bad planning is on your part, not on any CM's.

I left it on slings desk. The TOD's are his now.
