Bomber guys that cronically overshoot.

Not sure if anyone still has this problem.  But if you do I might know why.

Are you exiting calibration mode?

I've only gotten bombers over target a couple of times online.  First time I took up some Bostons in the CT.  Climbed to 10K agl.  Leveled and lined up on the airflied I was attacking.  Entered calibration mode.  Calibrated speed and alt.  Openned bomb bay doors.  Exited calibration modem.  Dropped 2 salvos.  Distroyed 2 fighter hangers.  Piece of cake.

Second time was tonight in the MA.  Again launched a flight of 3 Bostons.  Climbed to 10K agl.  Leveled and lined up on the field.  Was relatively close to the field by now.  Entered calibration mode.  Calibrated speed and alt.  Openned bomb bay doors.  A this point I was getting worried I would over shoot the field.  Looked up from the bombsite.  Corrected my heading a bit, looked back down an the field started to appear.  As soon as I dropped I knew I was going to overshoot and couldn't figure out why.  While I was puzzling over this, Wilbuz shoot down all 3 bombers in rapid succession.  It was only afterwards that I realized I had never exited calibration mode!

Hope this helps.

most common overshoot...

... is because the pilots are not yet on their vmax (cons throttle and FL).

most often unexperienced pilots do a to short bombrun. their bomber cant reach its final speed and they calibrate while the planes speed still is increasing after the ascending to the FL.

counteract this with longer bombruns or sacrifice 1000 feet altitude to get to your std speed for bombing (ie 220 knots with a lanc, 240 with a B17G).

Orgasmic Interception.

I do that a little difference, once at altitude I cut throttle back to 80 percent, on a b17 this is manofold 40 setting. this give u a true air speed of between 200 and 210.  A slower drop speed give you better accurracy. also one thing else if you miss right or left and the cross hairs were on the target, then durning calibration you had the joystick with just a little roll added into the process. Do not move the joystick either to the right or left when calibrating.
In other words practice makes you better

Set your speed early by adjusting either the Manifold Pressure or the RPM and then open the Bombbay doors to let the speed stablize before doing the sight calibration.   If your speed changes between calibration and 'bombs away' your going to miss big time.

Also, I found it really helps to practice in the Training Arena using the 'point of impact' sight.  It show you exactly where your bombs will hit and you can compare that to where your cross hairs are on the bomb sight and start to understand the process much better.

Another trick is while in calibration mode, hold the 'Y' key down for longer...usually for 15-20 seconds while keeping your crosshairs marked.  This calibrates your speed far better.
