For those who don't have it, Saiteks new version of the Saitek Smart Technologies Profiler is out.

It now supports hat switch programming.

The rotary switches are still not programmable, they say next release is in September.

Yes, it is official saitek profiler software and yes it works for windows XP.  You must do a complete removal of any previous drivers before installing.  (ie the dhauzimmer drivers if you have them)

Use the NukeUSB utility.

Sorry this took me so long, I never remember to check this forum.  :)

http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/supp/joysupportxp.htm

then choose your type of joystick - it will take you to a FAQ, at the bottom of the page it says get drivers and software here.

Thank goodness they are finally getting their act together..how long has XP been out now? I keep a X36 USB in reserve incase anything happens to my Cougar. Saitek may not IMHO have the same build quality as CH or TM but the sticks work, work well and for the price you could buy three or more for the price of a CH or TM HOTAS setup or the same style.

Hmmm.

Must admit I'm very happy with dhauzimmer driver and the Hazard script editor You get a GUI for programming, it takes less than 2 seconds to load and it doesnt bloat your system, which SGE did on Win98. Only thing I'm missing from dhauzimmer is the programmable trim dials, which sorta working in SGE under win98.

It works, but only under windows; pressing buttons under AH does nothing.
Opening the new programming software gives option to map keys to each button, but where have the direct-x buttons options gone?

moot... are you talking about the SSt 2.7?

If you are, and have a profile set up, then AH stick mapping will constantly show a single button depressed.   However, the game should work exactly as your profile states.    You also have to make sure that if you are using a profile, undo all of your previously mapped buttons under stick mapping.  I found out that the two conflict with each other, causing some really weird results.

Another thing to check is to make sure that the following drivers are installed on your system.  (you need these for the profiler to work correctly)

Saitek x36/45 stick driver
Saitek magic mouse
HID compliant mouse
Saitek magic keyboard
HID compliant keyboard

nervermind, never had had to remap AHcontrol>joystick input button by button in the select joystick menu before, stupid me.

I note the joystick input labels are all mixed up, pressing mouse hat buttons shows up as throttle hat , etc.

Thanks for the help.

Ok I tried it. MAN this software sucks ass.
Years after the original Windows 98 software and this is actually worse. Not to mention it screwed my mouse drivers.

Guess I'm going back to using DirectX buttons.

????

The software works fine for me.  And the pinkie button shift command should work, although I don't use it for that.

moot, i think I understand your problem.  When you installed the software, it sets up the joystick for a "beginner" user.  It only sets up basic drivers.  Halfway through the installation, it asks you if you want to install for a "typical" or "advanced" user.   In order for the SST profiler to work, you have click on the "advanced" user.  This is where it will install the magic keyboard, and magic mouse drivers, and also will install the profiler.  You should then be able to program your buttons into the SST profiler software, and the pinkie shift button should work, aswell as the hats and stuff.  The only thing that doesn't work as of yet is the rotary knobs.

Right, I have it installed as advanced user, but how does the pinkie switch modifier appear in AH? Any changes outside AH with the profile editor changes nothing in AH, except the 8-way/4-way type options.
As it is I remapped all the AH controls (button-x and rpm-x etc) to joystick inputs, which considers everyone of them as just 1/0 inputs.

Another question on this: there is no way to make stick hat 2 a POV hat?
