I dunno what's "acceptable" in the public forums. Did a quick search and found 163 threads in just the O-Club containing the word, "diddly".

As I understand it, we can argue about racism, sexism, abortion, politics, cruelty to animals. A whole host of subjects guaranteed to inflame.

BUT... bikini clad women are unacceptable.

I reread the posts by Hortlund. I have to say I think you are out of line here. Now hear me out. I have seen many posts here using quite a bit of profanity (where is the societal benifit there?), personal attacks, slander, posting of outrageous topics and messages just to inflame readers of the board with no other message. Several names on this thread alone come to mind. One thread that was rather benign but offensive none the less is, Vulcans opening post titled Amen.

Hortlund's message was, by the past history of this bbs chanel, extremely tame and not inflamatory. It is also in the vein of expressing an opinion which I thought was one the purposes of this particular part of the bbs. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Now I realise that this bbs is supplied by your company and you can do what you want but I thought Hortlund's post was well within the bounds of what had been acceptable in the past. If nothing else I have found Hortlund to post thoughtful and reasonable messages which places him far above several on this board you did not criticise. Just my opinion of course.

I would guess that maybe YANKEE found this (And perhaps people who dont want to see the wednesday babe should not open threads named "the wednesday babe"? Or is that just me being stupid?)a little condesending and possibly it is. While I'm used to it from Steve, (and enjoy the reparte') not everyone might see it as good natured. In his defense, I really don't think he meant to be inflammatory.

Even if you don't agree with HTC's stance on this, and IMO you should, you have to give consideration to others who frequent this board, and to those that run the company that supports this board.

Yankee has all the right in the world to be offended. I myself was guilty of overlooking this at first. My bad.

I have to agree with Maverick on this one. Obviously I don't know what you might or might not have said to Hortlund but if it is based only on what I am presently seeing:

His quotes are hardly what I'd call "offensive" (sarcastic, yes) and shouldn't get banned for it. Seems extreme on your part to ban him based on those two posts. (I have seen much, much worse from others on these boards)

Has he been emailed privately from your staff? Was there something offensive in his posts above that are deleted and we're not seeing? Sorry to voice my opinion on this but if his posts above are accurate and unmodified, I find his banishment highly objectionable and somewhat against the First Ammendment.

Believe it or not, *I* am not the only one who found it inappropriate but I will take the heat for putting a stop to it.

This is not a personal attack against those who posted but the continued questioning of my decision has made this issue snowball. This was to serve as a polite warning.

What many of you "adults" must remember is that we have many minors in our community. How would you feel, as a parent, to see your child pull something like that up?

That is neither here nor there anyway. This discussion is over.
