Here's an interesting article by someone that went from Mac to PC and then back to Mac.

I used to use Macs at home and at work. Then I switched to PC at home. This was during the OS8 time period. There was really no difference in stability between the two. Both crashed about the same.

I still have two macs at home... one is an really old 601 chip machine the other is a somewhat newer 604 machine. It's a pain in the bellybutton installing OS's on them. Neither can use the newer OS's. The older one can't use the OS that the newer one can. It's irritating that the MacOS is so specific to the processor.

Hell, I can install 98SE on a Pentium 166 or an Athlon 2.1 gig machine. This is a wonderful thing.

You can use the /NM switch to bypass the minimum processor check.  (66MHz 486)  :D

Hehe the intelligence jab was just a joke, guys - wassamatter, Bill Gates steal yer sense of humour? [hmm maybe it's some Faustian clause in the XP EULA] :)

My experience - I have a PC (850 Athlon) and a Mac (Overclocked g3 beige) and I'm a bit of a techie - is they're both OK - but I reckon Windows goes out of its way to be difficult in some areas. I remember when I first got a PC, I was amazed that people actually put up with all this nonsense. But like almost anything you get used to it, so after a while you hardly notice the monthly security updates and the half-yearly reinstall of the whole OS. :)

But the PC's redeeming feature is games - Aces High is the only reason I got a PC in the first place. :)


Sandman - get "Wish I were" and "resedit" - do a net search on "gestalt mac OS install" - you can install it if you really want to :)

liberals get all wet over macs so that's a good enough reason to stay away from em.

I stay far away from Macs.  Everytime I've used one in the past couple years it seems to have a 6th sense of when to crash to inflict the maximum amount of pain on me.  

BTW:  OS 10 is not UNIX based, it is based on BeOS.  They are not the same OS, they just look similar.  (There are tons of OSes that were influenced or based on UNIX.  I can think of Posix, Minix, Linux, "Unix", HP-UX, Solaris (in all it's flavors), BeOS, Mac OS X, Windows NT (believe it or not), uClinux, FreeBSD, and more.)

Actually it is unix based--Apple's open source version of FreeBSD anyway, called Darwin.  Basically you have an open source unix with the closed source, classic Mac GUI on top.  I'm curious where you got the idea it was based on BeOS?
