Losing UDP
« on: August 24, 2002, 08:04:57 PM »
Can anybody confirm that the HTC server has become much more sensitive to connection quality and is now booting people off from UDP down to TCP more frequently ?

I have never had any trouble before, never experienced an "invisible plane", never had anybody tell me I'm warpy, and never been booted down to TCP.

I keep getting this and have no idea what I can do to improve my connection to meet htc server's standard :(

PLEASE HELP !!!!  I DO NOT LIKE BEING DISCRIMINATED FOR NOT LIVING NEXTDOOR TO HTC !!!!

Vif,

Do you have a router or a firewall setup?

Since the latest patch or 2 I've been getting the message almost everytime I log on, but I've never gotten the boot.

Got the same message - an sometimes it boots me to desktop.

As far as i know some of my sqadies have the same problems....

BTW: vatiAH - if it woulld be a wrong setup on Firewall or router - the UDP will not pass it. and he would conect in TCP/IP at the start - not droping from UDP after some time .

Asmoden,

I just got setup on cable about two weeks ago,  I have Linksys router that did not have the correct ports open.  I would log on, be in the air or tower roughly 3 minutes then I would loose UDP.  Now that I have the right ports open, I rarely loose UDP.   I'm not saying you are wrong, but you are also not 100% correct.

I've been losing alot of sessions lately, but they haven't been acompanied with a degradation of connect and the evidential boot like they used too.

try it with the Router disconnected. (to trouble shoot it)

Also if your ping time is very high 500-800+ you may just barly be hanging on to a connection and the host isnt getting a return protical anser back fast enough . (that may be causing it  )
(you will see alot of lost packets)

another thing If your running windows XP on 128mb of ram and trying to play online games .

Just a few ideas :)

Ah, a linksys router.   That's the hardware that caused HTC to be much more intolerant of one-side udp disconnects. :(

I have gotten this "Lost UPD switching to TCP" three times tonight.

In all the times I've played AH, I've never seen this till now...

I've been playing since AW went down, so it's definitly something new...

I've been using the same router and dsl connection...

I get that "switching to TCP" error now too, every 5-15 minutes.  It's always followed by a disco.
I have a 2wire DSL gateway.  If I knew what ports to open, I know how to open them.  No issues with other online games like OFP, Ghost Recon, America's Army, WarBirds, etc...

I was told to setup a port trigger for aceshigh.exe.  Set the ports from 2000 to 3100 open.  this Solved my problem.  the port trigger only opens the ports when aceshigh.exe is running.

BTW: funkedup, No other game makes me open a port either unless i want to host a game.
