Belive it or not, I'm patient person, but its been almost 2 months since 1.10 came out, and i want to try my hand at skining, and zoned strat (hoping i can set a deport as the owner of the zone-for my D-Day map)

I'm sure HiTech won't read this, in fact I think i'm on his ignore list;)
But who knows?

I'd just like a bit of information (eg. a rough release date) would be nice

I've been working with the Editor the day it came out. Be patient like the rest of us, HTC doesn't need the added headache of ranting for a new editor.

He'll release it when it's done, and then again maybe he'll never release it.

Posting a message to add people on a "squeak" list to pressure HTC to release the editor isn't the way to go, especially in such a dead forum.

I agree with bendover.
I remember another flight sim where there were tools avail. for improving the quality and community interaction, but the tools were only given to a few back-scratchers.They produced approx 5 maps, none of which were successful at interesting the community.  While many of us begged to get involved, the few  managed to keep the knowledge to themselves, ( and the tools) Some years later.. the game remained unchanged, unprogressive and ultimately unsuccessfull.

I have carefully looked at akdesert. WTG those who made it. I know it took a great deal of work and you had to build some of the tools yourselves, but now that you have.....

Its clear to see the reason the terrain is not hugely successfull is because it was build around the bmp2map 's basic build functionality. There is little hand laid  modification to the terrain, and not a great deal of time spent positioning spawn points. THere are also problems with impasses in gv's and a  very high alt concern.

In short. you did a fine fine job bringing the tools needed to make some really cool products. That doesnt mean your the only guys that should be able to use them.

The tools are functional and should be shared  if only for the sake of community interest as BETA.

It concerns me that the same people that helped build the tool are the only people that have access to it.  I believe that if it were not ready, there would be no akdesert.

I hope Hitech reads this!! I think its important that those not in AK are heard and recognized as community members too.

ALL of us should be able to get involved.

I have to agree with Nuttz.. he's been around here a long time, doing the best terrains (IMO) and has had the experience.

If you're talking about AW and its terrains DOODY, there was no terrain edxitor for AW.  None.  Nada.  Zilch.   Kesmai wasn't "hiding" their program and only giving it to a "secret few"; rather, there was just nothing to hide.

There was a large amount of shapes and testures (about 80 MB worth) which was available for download to anybody who asked.  However, to actually build the terrain you needed 3D Studio Max (which is a pretty expensive program if you don't have access to it through work or something).   The fact is, not very many people at all both had access to 3DS max AND were willing to build an AW terrain--AW's terrain system was disturbingly complex and outdated and makes AH's system look like a breeze.

Just FYI

AW map editor doesnt exist

You have just given me more info than 5 years of asking kesmai. I hope that puts my concerns in perspective.

Sna once told me about 3dsm, but when I went to get some insight from kesmai.. i got a few emails saying they were working on editor tools, then I got an email directing me to mage, who at the time was making them. That is where the information stopped. The mage'ettes had the knowledge, but were reluctant to share it. While its simple enough to get a question or two answered here ( thx guys). There is no real sharing of applied knowledge.

I suggest we work as a team.  Lets put our head together and make something.

Here is what I am working on:
Doodyville:
Layout is similiar to AW's ETO field layout ( for the refugees), But makes use of TG's and topographical terrain.
I'm adding fom psuedo functionality that I hope HTC will pick up
example:
if a country hold field a35, and wins the reset, they receive an additional 5 perkies. field 35 produces beer and party favors, thus holding it will raise your countries moral score
field a41 might be the Shipping port, winning with it would pay 5 perkies, since it is the import export facility providing exotic supplies and such.
things like this can be calculated at game end by simply checking ownership of the field and a small database that tells what the field suplies and pays. no need to change field functionality.

Also, with 1024x1024 maps, there is a lot of overkill space (imo)
I plan to use a portion of the map ( open sea) to cross reference field numbers with field names. That way, no code change dependancy. (Names add a sense of ownership (imo).
I plan to include multiple map views i.e. topographical, stratigical,  spy view( safest routes and covert info) to expand the depth of gameplay.
I think that adding more strat depth will allow the simmers to continue to enjoy the game, while the overwhelming number of gamers get to play through.
Also, my map will be layed out so that single wing formations will not be able to to much harm to the country as a whole. example: airfields will likely only have gv spawns from behind front lines. THat way invasions will take  team effort.

THis is just the start.. any ideas??

doody , your mention of bonus perks for some bases reminds me of a civil war game i have where you get different victory points for holding key map points, your idea of bonus perks could add a interesting twist to the present system of winning when your enemy is down to one base.
