Buff guns on the ground

Why is it you can't fire a buff's guns on the ground?  It would at least give a buff taking off from a field under attack a chance.  As it is, you just have to sit there & take it until you're airborn.

Folks abuse it if the guns were active, if you know what the term "Ack Star" is, then you know what I'm talking about....abuse was prevelant when we had bombs active at any altitude at one time in this sim (we used to call them "Car bombers" as they would drop their ord when a fighter was close by).

If a field is under attack, use a rear field for taking off.

Exactly - if a field is under attack, you probably aren't in the right place to be taking off in a bomber anyway.

Okay, I understand where this could be abused, but it is realistic (to a degree) to have the guns operational.  Maybe have just the top gun or tail gun active on takeoff would be a compromise.

I'm thinking of the other day when we only had 4-5 fields, always under attack, and trying to get a decent buff mission going (which isn't saying much since I really suck at buffing).  Taking off from a 'rear' base was just as bad as a frontline base.

Understandable Gloves, when in the hole, its tough to get anything up in regards to a mission.

What HTC needs to do is review all the suggestions we've put forward in regards to being outnumbered and low on airbases, say unlimited perks, or several other suggestions.  I personally don't think letting buffs have guns will help the underdog country much.

Consider it a gameplay concession (the buff guns off on the ground)

You ain't exactly on the offensive when all of your fields are under attack.

Bombers are an offensive weapon.

See where this is going?

It was diabled due to the over whelming whining of lamers too dumb to drop the BH during base capture.

let's think about this for a second.

*Joe n00b goes to field, field is underattack*
*Joe n00b tries to get into a gunner position only to find that they're all either occupied or taken out*
*Joe n00b tries to get an ostwin but the VH is down*
*Joe n00b tries to up sptfire from base but is shot down*
*Joe n00b spawn B-17 and uses it as a mobile AAA vehicle*

If guns worked on the ground you'd see people spawning them to get rid of vulchers.  Considering the unrealistic dispersion of B-17 guns this would be slaughter against the vulching planes.  Very gamey.

How is the dispersion on the B-17 unrealistic?

In my experience, ack wagon B-17s were easy kills.  They got slaughtered.  Not the way you predict.

That said, guns off on the ground is fine with me.  Bombers are offensive weapons (or used to be) and should not be used for base defense.

I miss carbombing. I was very good at car bombing. I loved attacking Ostwinds and Panzers ans M3s and Goons with my carbomber. I miss yelling Allahu Akbar every time I pulled the bomb trigger. No carbombing made me unhappy. :p
