Tips for the Ki-61...

Well I'm finally bored with both versions of the Yak, and have decided to move on to something completely different (nationality wise, anyway).

Does anybody have any pointers for getting the best out of this A/C?

Get close, and fire, ammo management is the key those 20mm Ho-5 are awsome guns, but u nead to manage the ammo it goes very fast, the rof is WAY high, use the 12.7's to find your target and make the commitment with the 20mm, get close so you dont miss.( I have had 12 kill sorties Vulching so I know it is capable of great things if you use the ammo corectly, that was all cannon btw no 12.7) Also always fire the cannon sepretly of the MG that way you know wher they are going, and when and whear you get cannon hits.

 I fly it with 50% fuel and the drop tanks, any US plane is easy meat if they want to turn, the Brit wounder turners are a different mater.

 It is slow you can not run away, but the babes love the paint job:)

 I love it, the 205 and the Ki 61 are my favorate fighters. For now at least:) ( plese dont tell my Zero I said that:) )

I don't fly the Ki-61 enough to know anything except that what Brady says about ammo is very true.  But about turning with US planes, beware of the F4F/FM2.

Been flying the Hein almost exclusively in this week's Burma 1943 CT set up, and it's very competative against it's contemporaries in the CBI.  The only opposing A/C I've had trouble with co-E is the Spit, which it can still outrun at certain altitudes with just a little head start in the E-dept.  It handles very well, and will even turn with a Spit or Hurri for about 1/2 a turn.  After that I break low in the opposite direction.  Its cannon are very effective, but with a short clip, as mentioned.  My average sorties are 2 kill types.  In the MA of course it's a different story.  Too many other planes that out gun it, out speed it, and out climb it in the MA.  Still, if flown within its envelope it will do all right.

Note: it reaches "wing-groan" speed quickly (which is good), but that max dive speed is not as high as many other's can reach (which is not good).
