hmmmm.  This will be interesting.  What is the story with the spit 14 anyway?  I wont be flying it, but am just curious.  

Here is an example of some of the problems in the ct though.  In later 1944 the germans were nearly incapable of mounting an air defense.  Lancasters had a relatively easy ride to germany, that will not be the case here.  In fact I am sure 262s will be found vulching fields across the channel.  

Dont get me wrong, this looks like it will be fun (3 lancasters carrying cookies will be a ball, particularly with full squad ops and cover) just that strategies will not be  like it 'was' in rl.

They've got a point with the Spit XIV being included.  It was in service and available before the Me262 was.  Also, wasn't the first credited kill of a Me262 given to a Spitfire Mk XIV?

The setup looks great! I will definitely be there for a couple of days next week. One thing though..have you given any thought to including the Spitfire MkXIV and the Tempest MkV to the setup? Both aircraft were operational in July of 44 (although the Temp was fairly new - maybe restrict it to a single base like the 262?) and they might add quite a bit to evening up the sides in so far as technology is concerned. :)

By July of '44 there were three Wings (each of 3 or 4 squadrons)of Tempest MkVs with 2nd Tactical Air Force. The first Tempest wing was formed in Autumn '43, and though for much of the intervening time they had been committed to V1 chasing they were released back to operations for D-Day.

Spit XIV was in service at this point (Operational with 610 Squadron on January 3rd, 1944 and first killed a Ju88 in March, 1944).

Fw190D-9s were not operational until September, 1944.

oh, my vote would be to leave the spit14 out. The setup looks sweet as it is! P-47's in Europe too!  You add the spit 14, then 75% of the allied AC you see in this setup will be..Spit 14's. Unless you added some degree of perk price.

A 1942 spit9 is hardly representative of the RAF's fighter power in july of '44.

nokidding.  also, I would be more worried about a squad of p51ds and even more the bs than spit 14s.

Would like to see them leave the SPIT XIV, TEMPEST & ME-262 out of this scenario. Would make it alot "more interesting" IMHO.

O well, atleast we get to fly on the new map, and our pretty Grass feild at a3 isnt dead anymore! :)

PS. I gave no info away, Wotan said Axis allready knows about a3 in BoB scenario...

Performance wise, the Spitfire Mk XIV is closer to the 1944 Spitfire Mk IX than is the AH Spitfire Mk IX.

It doesn't really matter though.

There is no way to set one of these up so it works right.  I fly Mossies mostly, but in this proposed environment I would be facing Fw190D-9s, Bf109G-10s and Me262As.

The Germans built 700 Fw190D-9s, yet that is what I'll face 95% of the time a 190 icon is seen.  The thousands of A series Fw190s that would be represetnative of this time period will sit unused in the hangars.  The same is true for the Bf109s. Not that the AH Bf109G-6 is representative of a Bf109G-6 of July, 1944 any more than the AH Spitfire Mk IX is representative of a Spitfire Mk IX of July, 1944.

On the RAF side you have Typhoons far in excess of their historical numbers and 1942 Spitfire Mk IXs that weren't even in service anymore.

I think the likely American balance will be closest to correct, with a heavy de-emphasis on bombers.

That would be hilarious.  Actually, if RT and I have my way, I think the vf are going to be trying long range bomber runs into germany or france. Escorted by american metal of course.  

You are right about the 190d (read my post above) but that is the way it is in this game.   The only time we get a historical matchup is when we have a battle that only had 4 planes (bob).  Of course in there we have this uber "warp 5 commander sulu" ju88.

I read (which in no way means it is accurate)that a member of the USAAF 332nd Pursuit Squadron "Tuskegee Airmen" was the first to get a 262 kill of the war during an escort mission. Maybe the first US kill? It was a footnote at the end of a docudrama, "Tuskegee Airmen," so it's authenticity can readily be questioned.

In any event, I'd love to know the answer.
