HiTech Interview - What about mobile artillery
« on: August 30, 2002, 11:13:45 AM »
I like the idea of making towns larger and perhaps hardening some of the buildings so that it makes them much harder to JABO.

Combined with the new bombing system, especially with the 14K wind layer, it encourages the realism of having *escorted* bombers over the target area (since they aren't as effective at 25K and they have to fly straight and level approaching the target area).

I also like the idea of GV artillery, though I really think the way to go about it is to introduce the StuG III with the 105mm gun.

Then the options for flattening these larger, hardened towns become:

1. A couple of bomber formations, escorted if they don't want to be picked off by a 109G10 launching from the base.

2. A large, well coordinated JABO mission (so that the bish can still swarm their tiffies, wouldn't want to impose on that).

3. A couple of StuG III's perched outside of AA range lobbing 105mm HE rounds.

The point being that a single P47, a single Ostwind, or a single Lanc with a well placed 4K bomb would no longer be able to flatten a town, but there would be a nice variety of ways to do it - each requiring some skill and teamwork. (Fully acknowledging that the teamwork requirement would, of course, doom my faithfull knits :D ).
