Bomb Drift Indicator
« on: August 31, 2002, 12:26:25 PM »
Hi all,

I just made this suggestion under another thread but I'd like to voice it here as well. How about a bomb drift indicator in the bombsight?

Now before you begin ranting, I'm not asking for the big green X showing the actual bomb impact point. I'm simply asking for some numbers showing how many yards off true we still are.

This would be a learning tool forcing us to go back and recalculate rather than trusting in bad numbers and getting needlessly angry when our bombs fall miles away from where we aimed them. This would simulate the training that  master bombers (please keep in mind that most bombs were dropped by toggle men not highly trained bombadiers) received that we haven't. Also, many of us stink at math and bombardiers and navigators were generally selected from the men who didn't.

This would not be a "cheat" or a return to laser bombing, but it would help immensely in learning and mastering the art of calibration. At present we receive MILES more help aiming ship guns than we do bombs. At least give us a hand in mastering this and you might get more bomber sorties.

Thanks for Listening,
SEAGOON
