Frame rates----HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: August 31, 2002, 05:49:38 PM »
Hi everyone,  I'm getting smoked constantly.  My frame rate is always at about 30-40 range.
My system is the following:
Pen-III 550
64 mb video card
192 megs of ram
cable modem
I'm using a microsoft precision forcefeed back stick

I destudmuffin and clean sweep weekly.  I'm thinking of up grading to a 2 ghz P-IV, will this help or is there something else?  anyone got any more ideas??

30-40fps seems pretty good for that cpu.

If you have a 64mb vid card you likely can keep it when you upgrade.  You should also consider adding more ram at the same time as well.

Nothing wrong with 30-40 fps.  Your eye cannot distinguish anything different above that.  Getting a better cpu has the most impact on fps even with a 64MB card.

Frame rates----HELP!!!!!!!!!

I recently upgraded from a p3 866. I had around 40 or 50 until things got busy or close, then it dropped. I suspect you suffer the same hit. While many great aces fly around with similar systems, I think an upgrade to the 2 gig will do you wonders. I am now running a 1.8 gig p4 on a geforce 3 card, frame rates max out at 75 or 85 depending on how I set my resolution. Now, if only I could hit what I aim for!!!! You will see great improvement when things are really busy and you have close contacts or are over busy bases with smoke. ahhhhh, just plunk down the cash :D

later!

Thanks for all the help guys.  I do lose allot of my frame rates in the furballs.  With the CPU so cheap now I'm going to upgrade before the end of the year.   :D
