PT toughness
« on: September 07, 2002, 03:42:46 PM »
Hi All,

Just wondering, I'm glad the 40mm turret on the PT now spins 360, but I'm wondering if the overall toughness of the Boat has been reduced also. They seem to be popping a lot faster than they did in the past (like the Bombers).

No, PT's are made of plywood. They explode and/or fall apart because they are not armored. It is enough that they have more guns then a B17, and can hit with the majority of them at nearly any angle.

I do not believe they have changed at all.

I haven't seen one recently, but I have always found that the deciding factor in attacking a PT was whether it sees me or not.  They pop very easily if you can hit them before they hit you.

A PT boat will stay afloat with a 75mm AP in the side of the front half.

One single round of HE will knock a PT boat out. I believe that is as it should be. From above, a single rocket will do the job.

They pop real good though :D

Silly fun little bonus of the game.

It takes 3 75mm AP rounds to kill a virgin PT, and rightfully so. The AP would only punch a hole in the PT. I've killed PT's with only one HE round but I load HE very rarely and I have no idea if the PT's I've killed w/ HE were virgins.

A 75mm AP projectile is a very fast pointed rock[/u]; it's going to punch a hole in the side going in, and another hole in the side going out if you pop it in the front half. The engines are in the stern; hit it there, and you can at least keep it from getting away while you work it over.
