sabre is this weeks CT Stud Muffin, but if i were to gues it may be either, play balence, or inservice issues.

The Tempest, like the Fw190D-9, was not in service in July, 1944.

Yes Tempest was in service.

April 23rd 1944 first operational sortie RAF No. 3 Squadron.

First victories were on June 8th when Wing Commander Beamont led nine No 3 Squadron Tempests over the area of the Normandy invasion beaches. During the patrol the squadron engaged five Bf 109Gs near Rouen, shooting down three of the German fighters without loss.

Mostly however, the Tempests were withheld to deal with the flying bomb threat.  There was no other Allied aircraft capable of dealing with this threat as easily.
