Seems that a lot of us have been experiencing screen lockups in AH lately?

What Gives?

I've seen a large variety of reasons for lock ups, everything from the latest spread of HHAHAHAHA: Snow White and the seven Dwarfs Virus to needing updated drivers, to using WAV recording in RW...

Oh, mine, I might add, was due to new system, then I finally squeezed it down to not enough ram...added 128 meg and Viola, no probs (bad simm module?)...anyway, it could be a variety of reasons, whats the last thing you loaded, or updated, or executed on your system prior to lock ups?

I've seen a lot of posts about lockups recently as well.  I know it doesn't help you guys, but I've never had AH lockup on me.  I've been dumped to the desktop a few times, but never a lockup.  This would lead me to believe that the lockups are related to IRQ conflicts, drivers, or heat.

RW and DX8 also have a nasty habit of causing problems unless wav recording is used instead of directsound.

After weeks of not one lockup, had two yesterday.

Absolutely no idea why.  I'm using wav in RW, and have Dx 8.0.  One was in the tower, one in flight.

I defrag and scandisk almost every other day.  Got 256 mb pc 133 ram.

Have these gotten worse sinc Hi Tech took the servers down for an update last time?

I've had 1 ah lock up, and that was recently.  Pretty sure it was due to heat.  We had a bit of a heat wave in Jersey last week or so, and my case is in a cabinet.  On the other hand I did have a case of screen jitters recently...think it's gone now but havn't been playin much so I'm not sure.

I used to have several hard lockups in AH every time I played.  I installed new sound card drivers and haven't had a single lockup in weeks.

I also used to have them..

I had 2 problems, my AWE62 sound card had to have the IRQ and DMA set manually in the BIOS.

Problem number 2 i would have never found if i hadnt used a program to check my memory. This program told me i had errors in it, replaced memory and that fixed it.

Dog out..............

I had bad lockup problems too and i tried *all* sorts of things to try cure it, but the one thing which worked (and havent had a single lockup since) was to remove 2 of my 3 hard-drives. The power they suck up must be pretty large. Not enough current to the video card (espc gforce cards) is a very common cause of lockup.

So either upgrade the power supply or remove any extranious peripherals.
