That is completly off the point, just because I wont attend every funeral doesnt mean I'm gonna pretend that my family members are worth more than the rest of the world.
They are more important to me on a personal level because I know them personally and love them, but dont compare family with country. Thats the whole problem with this world, people dont seem to realize that people in other countries are not worth less than those in yours.
Maybe you have never been to a third world country and met diferent people so that you can compare those to the rest of America and then think
"Yeah, I still believe Americans are worth more."Some of the best people I have met was in Haiti, Dominican Republic, the poor parts of Perú, Bolivia. I'm not going into detail on how I experienced acts of kindness that never compared to anything I got in North America.
Maybe because I have had the oportunity to see a lot of the world that is not America I have learned to appreciate that the deaths of people in other countries are no less tragic than the death of an American.
For the record, I am not trying to dehumanize or diminish the sorrow of all the people related to those who died in the 9/11 attack, thankfully I didnt know any of them. It was a sad event, it changed my view on a few things that are going on in the world but it didnt change my lifestyle.
To me, the violent unjust death of a North American, a Puerto Rican, a Mexican, a Somali, what have you, are equally sad because none of them is more important than the other from my point of view, do you honestly see this as wrong, or unpatriotic?
Losing 2000 Americans in one heinous act is more important to me than losing 2000 Somalis or Iraqis. Just the facts Animal. I'm surprised you don't see the truth in that.
Sadly that is exactly the attitude that has made many people around the world dislike us. You know, the
"We are Americans and we care for ourselves, the rest of the world isnt nearly as important to me as the rest of America because they are outside" well let me tell you something, there will always be wars and hate unless we try to do an effort to think globally.
First rule of Buddhism:
SUFFERING IS UNIVERSAL.On 9.11.02 I will wake up, look at my watch, realize that its already been a year, then go to work and not think about it for the rest of the day unless something brings it up.
Its already behind me.
However, I will always remember exactly what I was doing when the attack happened because it was a turning point in the history of America.
