Aircraft, vehicles and boats for v1.11 and beyond
« on: September 08, 2002, 01:09:47 AM »
It seems to me that AH is quickly completing the list of "standard" units for these games.  The following are all that is left of the "standard" units (bold indicates standard sim units that I think we need most):

B-17E or B-17F
B-24J
B-25 (various)
B5N2
G4M2
Ju-87 (various)
Ki-43-IIa
Ki-84-Ia
M4A3
Mosquito B.Mk IV
P-38 (early version)
P-39 (various)
Panther V G
Tiger II
Yak-3

It seems to me that as the list of standard units not yet added is getting thin HTC will probably be adding rare (in terms of their existance in computer sims) and unusual units more frequently.  They have already added quite a few units rarely seen in sims:

A-20G
Ar234B
B-26B
Boston Mk III
C.202
C.205
Fw190F-8
Hurricane Mk IId
Il-2 Type 3
Ki-67
La-5FN
La-7
Lancaster Mk III
LVT(A)2
LVT(A)4
M-8 'Greyhound'
Me163
Ostwind
PT Boat
Ta152H-1
Yak-9T

Now the list of rare and unusual units will be drawn on more and more I think.  Things like the H8K2, He177A-5, I-16, Pe-2, J2M3, Beaufighter, P-61B, Ki-44-IIb, P-47M, E-Boat and Type VII U-Boat will be added more frequently.  I think the next versions of AH have an awesome potential to add units we've never had access to in a sim before.

I look forward to seeing what HTC decides to do.

Not much to nitpick with Karnak's list here, though I would consider a Japanese naval torpedo bomber a badly needed unit as well.   I just can't stand to see the TBM subbing for the IJN in events.   The P-39 saw widespread service in SW Pacific, North Africa, and the Russia; including it adds an important plane for several different CT settings.

Clearly the most important fighter on the list is the Ki.84 - it would be enormously useful to MA flyers as well as add another choice to the limited Japanese planeset in CT settings and events.

The Ju-87 is important for the Mediterranean and Eastern Front scenarios.

I'm really getting anxious to find out what else might be coming in v1.11.

The current planeset is already impressive. I haven't even had enough time to enjoy all the new aircraft from 1.10.

I agree with others that the Russian, Japanese, and Italian planesets could use a few more key planes. But my personal interest is still in seeing more U.S. aircraft.

I think the biggest holes for events are:
Japanese Oscar, Kate, and Frank
German He-111 and Ju-87
US Early P-38, B-24, B-25, and P-39

What I would like to see the most is the P-61. I would be willing to accept it without an operational radar, or a very simplified one.

For me, HTC can do no wrong at this point. Any aircraft they add are simply icing on the cake.

i would personnaly be very curious of how HTC would model p39 aircobra. everyone knows allied pilots did not like it too much, english pilots send its shipments back to US, and on the other hand russian pilots considered it a very good plane. the thing is, i've flown it and fought vs it in WarBirds and in soem pilots hands it has been the most difficult opponent to beat. I knew poeple who did pure magic with the p39, and i wonder how its wobly FM would fit in AH.

Fine lists, and I'd add the A-26, B-29, P-47N, P-63D in Soviet garb and P-39Q in Soviet garb, including the reduced 37mm and two 50-cal armament for better performance.

Eventually would be great to see the Pe-2, Tu-2, S.M. 79, Catalina, Boomerang, B-25H, Betty, ll-4, P1Y1,  PZL P.11, Beaufighter, Potez 63, D520, and one or both of the big Japanese 4-engine flying boats ... and oh yes, the Short Sunderland.
