Super Duper TBM!
« on: April 26, 2001, 06:37:00 PM »
Anyone else been missing this little gold mine?  It carries twelve 100lb bombs plus 6 rockets, and turns like mad when it ain't loaded.  In one sortie last night, I removed the ack & dar from a medium field and downed a P38 in a dogfight (front guns not rear turrets)!

I think I'll be flying this little monster more often.  Move over Niki, I found the next uberplane!

It's a great plane SOB.  You can do a little of everything in it.  My favorite sortie involved flying off the carrier, level bombing a hangar, level bombing an Ostwind, finishing a hangar with rockets, getting a vulch with rockets, getting a vulch with MGs, killing a guy in a dogfight with MGs, killing a guy with the tail gun on the way home, then landing safely on the carrier.  You can't ask for much more from an airplane.

Ever see "Revenge of the Nerds" where Ogre finally manages to beat that girl at armwrestling?  That's how I felt when I finally downed Andre in his TBM while I was flying a yak.  It took 8k of altitude to do it and I think he got someone else during the fight.

Fricking incredible plane... though I'm sure the pilot had a tad bit to do with it too

LOL...I came inches from augering into the hill SE of 9 too.  The P38 wasn't smoking, but Animal said he pinged the crap out of it...he did it with a JU-88 tho', so I figured it didn't have any damage.

So you're AG now?

Yeah he dinged the crap out of me, had 1 lost engine 1 flap gone 1 aerilon gone.  But besdes that it still flew.  It was great seeing that attack by different planes.  Those canyons offer great cover.  And I love base defense, was a lot of fun while it lasted.

The TBM was originally designed as a fighter / bomber.  That is why it carried the forward firing weaponry.  That concept proved lethal during WW2 for its pilots though, especially as a torpedo bomber.  SO mostly it was relegated to carrying bombs, depth charges, and rockets.  Stilla nice aircraft, and HUGE, largest single engine aircraft of WW2.  I have worked on quite a few and they are a pleasure from both the mechanics and pilots stand point.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Ya, if i have to take out Ostis, its my plane of joins. All those light bombs are great for level bombing unsuspecting ostis. My only problem are the spitwad firing rear guns. From what i understand the rear guns are 50cal. When they are both firing it should equal one set of guns on a b17 or lanc. So why can you ping someone 50 plus times and the just keep flying? I have had this happen numerous times.

The top guns are 50, the bottom are 30 cal.

I always attack TBMs from the bottom

S!

The top turret in TBM has only 1 .50 cal,not 2.The belly gun is .303(7.7mm).TBM is pretty maneuverable when empty, but none of them has got me yet in a dogfight.109G-2 still eats them alive
