A few questions !
« on: September 09, 2002, 04:50:27 AM »
1, Will the enemy field still flash if you approach under the radar  ?

2, What height is under radar ?

3, Does the padlock view work online and do people use it ? If so do they get an advantage ?

4, Are all of your countrymen always visible on the inflight radar, if not what exceptions are there ?

5, What range is the in range radio channel set to ?

That's about it, thanks.

1. yes

2. 500 in the MA

3. I haven't tried it.
If you are used to manipulating your view buttons, you are probably fine without it.  If you are new, it may help you a lot, but probably won't give you an advantage.

4. not sure

5. not sure

Yes it will, you'll also hear the field under attack warning.

Under 500ft and your dot won't appear on the radar but the bar will.  Under 200ft and both dot and bar won't appear.

I tried padlock view when I first started and all it managed to do was get me all confused and I ended up crashing a lot or getting into nasty spins.  My personal preference is the instant view, as I'm used to that style of views from my days in AW and WB

I'd imagine that if they flying under 500ft, their dot won't show, since they'd be under radar.  Only other times I've known friendlies not to appear on radar is when we've lost radar due to HQ being egged.

VOX Range
« Reply #3 on: September 09, 2002, 06:06:50 AM »
I'm sure its not a whole lot more than 6K laterally.  Not sure if alt counts as distance.  I have been curious about the range.  So I popped up the chat buffer and dropped out of Icon range of a few friendlies.  I could still see what I knew to be friendly dots but they weren't showing in the vox list.  Shortly after they drop out of icon range they drop from the vox list as well.  But I didn't have much time to test as a NME CV was closer to shore than I expected and I found myself dodging AAA!

your countrymen show as long as the HQ radar is intact no matter what their altitude, and the range radio is icon range.

Thanks for answers guys,

One more question, how do you capture a field in attack mode ?

Reason I ask is that in my scores I am ranked 1419 in field captures in attack mode, just thinking that it must be able to be done !!!

Thanks

to #4. I think yes - dunno about the 500 ft height, but they do show up when out of range.

#one more: you don't. Capture is either done as a bomber (C-47) or Vehicle (M3/LVT)

With regards to #3 (padlock):
Many people find padlock to be disorientating especially in a/c with bubble canopies as they provide few reference points.
I doubt many people use it in AH anyway:-
padlock =  target fixation =  death

Yes

2, What height is under radar ?

500 ft. No DAR BAR or DOT will show to the nme at that alt

3, Does the padlock view work online and do people use it ? If so do they get an advantage ?

Skuzzy's Answer: The padlock view does work online, but it does not give any advantage to a pilot.
It actually can hurt the pilot in most cases.  It is meant as an aid to those not familar with the view system and to give them a graphical representation of how they may need to use the views.

4, Are all of your countrymen always visible on the inflight radar, if not what exceptions are there ?

Yes, except when HQ is down

5, What range is the in range radio channel set to ?

If you are within 10,000 yards, you will see/hear Range voice and/or text

That's about it, thanks.

Ur Welcome. Thank Skuzzy

Yes, but there is a catch. When you first log onto the arena, nothing will be flashing. It seems that when an enemy plane flies near something a message is sent out to all the clients telling them to make the field flash. If you weren't online when that message was sent out, then the field won't flash for you.

The only way it will start flashing is if all the enemies fly far enough away from the field for the server to decide it should stop flashing, then fly near it again so a new "make this field flash" message gets sent out.

I have had situations where a field was under constant attack for hours, and never flashed the whole time because I logged on AFTER the attacks started.
