Furballs are so wonderful!
« on: March 16, 2001, 11:54:00 AM »
Especially when on side refuses to meet in the middle, but chose to hang out closer to their base so that support shows faster, and you can get back to the fight faster... also so ack is always within helpfull range.

Especially when you don't really care about any of the friendlies in the furball except your squadie.  The others are really just distractions that will hopefully draw enemy attention and provide you with a fixated target.

Especially when you know most everyone will be fighting low and you come in above them at high speeds... only to take an occasional shot at whomever coincidently gets close to your gunsight.  So be it if it was the con in front of a friendly instead of the one behind.  If you miss.. then you just keep running out and climb again.  Nobody can hang with that E you brought with you.

Especially when holding down the trigger for 3 minutes straight usually yields some kind hits.. no need to worry if you actually put the plane out of commision.. as long as you scored enough hits so when someone else finishes him, you get credit.

Especially when people get more concerned over getting that enemy plane before any of the 5 other people behind him do... totally ignoring those 4 incoming bandits in the process.

Especially when more people are engaging that burning wingless fuselage plummeting towards the ground than those two enemies coming in above and behind you.

Especially when people flying from a CV refuse to leave the FLAK umbrella in order to provide them with the ability to fly above 3k while the enemy must stay below or else tempt the 1 ping killer.

Especially when every other con in sight has focussed on that one perk plane that just entered the battle.. wither hopelessly climbing to it or enlessly turning circles on the deck with 10 other people.

I enjoy furballs... to an extent.  Even people arguing vehemently for them have seen me there.  I like groups of planes going up against groups of planes and having to go into one serious SA model.  I especially like it when my squad goes up against another with relatively equal numbers on relatively equal terms... basically seeing teamwork in action on both sides.

What isn't as fun is going into a fight with 4 squadmates and seeing so much disorganization from the enemy that their dispatch is almost matter-of-fact... having to put up with "gang-banging" accusations because one of the individuals in the group you just killed felt the use of teamwork by only one side is unfair.

Sometimes I get the feeling that some people just want furballs to be promoted because it provides them with a chaos in wich the RW equiped group can come in and excell.  Easy prey all around... after all.. that's fun.. isn't it?

Golly...I thought the 13th were the only ones guilty of bangbanging, at least thats what I've heard

We cleared your six a couple of times last night just south of 2 and it was our pleasure. We help if we can, but when another pilot makes a selfish decision and gets in trouble, we will not offer ourselves up for sacrifice just to save his skin.

You make valid points, but it has always been this way and always will. Could there be room for many schools of thought regarding how to enjoy yourself in a sim...most likely there is

Later!

LOL! I saw you guys when I went into that one.. knew you'd be there when I came out.  I actually thought... I'll drag them to the 13'th... they'll be higher and at the edge of the fight.  I apreciate your consistancy

I also apreciate the clearing <S>.. though you should be thankfull for a completely fixated target that didn't jink at all when two p-51s dove in

That said, there have been plenty of times when I've watched a 13th guy shoot an enemy con that was in front of a countrymate and ignore the one behind him because that shot was more risky.  Like I said... whomever is the easier kill is targetted with little regard for anything else.

BTW Ice, that is not meant in any way as a dig on the 13th.  I know exactly how you fly and exactly what to expect from you guys.  You have fixed strategies and fixed guidelines.  I respect that.

We focus hard on E retention in the Pony...sometimes thos harder shots are best taken on our terms rather than the enemies

not sure what your point is.   But then i never do get your point (nor u mine).  Perhaps your point is that no aspect of the game is fun unless it is organized?   I know that u enjoy organization and that in some cases... so does everyone.    Sponteneity is also fun tho.

I have no problem with the way your squad flies.  I'm less than thrilled when I meet very organized squads like yours or 13'th when I am alone but find that good combat can be had when I have several squaddies with me.  Certainly it is easier to prevail against a gaggle than a squad.  Nothing new here.

I think we all know that we can't count on as much help from another "green" as we can from a squaddie.   That is fine and again, nothing new.   The new six calls tho have made for more county type help i feel...I think we all have guys in our squad who work well for "bait".

So... If your point is that "furballs" are only fun if they are organized the way you like em then.... No, I don't agree.   If you mean you like furballs with a lot of action and no real imbalance then.... Yes, I agree.

You do miss the point entirely lazs.

I think that many proponents, such as yourself, enjoy that most of the participants are unorganized.. though you yourself are flying with squadmates.  The lure of easy victims.

I've not seen you in a furball where your side was outnumbered lazs.  Not a single time.  I have videos of most of my engagements with you and every time there was a giant group of reds around you... most of the time under a CVs flack umbrella.  Each time I shot you down.

As far as me wanting an organized furball.. no I don't.  There is no such thing.  I don't want organized engagements at all, for I find them boring.  I'm not really a big fan of many of the scenarios because of this simple fact.

What I don't like is the fact that many seem to want to rely on the others not flying as a team.  Not organized... as a team.  They actually flourish because of it.  To the point that when the other side does finally act like a team, you get huffy and storm off to the bbs to scream bloody murder.

Valid points, Deja, but more a comment on human nature than game play, I think.

I have to admit, given the style of exchanges between Laz and yourself that you'd be the type to eschew furballing, so I was most surprised to see you down low 'n dirty doing the furry thing.

<S!>

How come the 13th always catch me on landing? It's not as if I'm in a 262 (yet)

A common misconception perpetuated by lazs is that I am against fuballing.. simply a strat guy.

I just don't feel there is a need to seperate it from the rest of the arena.  I also don't feel that it deserves any kind of gameplay modifations to perpetuate even further.  I'm not even remotely confident that accomodating "furballing enhancement" requests would do anything but encourage those "excepts" listed above.

If you didn't understand, repeating probably won't help.  Where was the main point of confusion?

'repeat please' was in humor, it is said the free polish flying for RAF when told to brake off from fighting LW they pretended not to understand english, quote"did not understand order, repeat please"

as to 'furballing " every one knows lazs feeling on that , he wants fighter town (furball all the time), but i did not know if you agreed with him  or not

Well I, for one, haven't had a squadmate in years, and being one of the 'unorganized' much prefer flying unorganized in a 'furball' environment than flying unorganized in a 'strat game' environment.

Just sayin'

The thing is, I've seen it work.  I won't deny that what made AW FT work was the great group of people that flew there, not the arena setup in that area.  But the area itself provided a place for like-minded people to gather, and make it into something special.  Without it, 'furballers' are scattered, homeless, wandering the map without focus.
