Hey All

I have been flying AH for a couple of months now and I have to say I really like it… but onto my topic!

The great Vulch ‘O Rama… What can I say—I do love them—I thrive for furballs, have nothing against a good 1 v 1, but the vulch—oh that delicious center of a tootsie pop is what really pushes my button… as my squad can attest to it I actually get giddy on vox when I see itty bitty little dots on the runway—LOL—hey it’s great stress relief. :D

Anyway in the last few days I have come up against some Bishop vulchees that I’m actually feeling sorry for. (Note: This is not a blast of the Bishops—I usually tend to concentrate on one country so that I can “understand” my enemy and their pilots—in this case I try to concentrate on the country with numbers more on par with Knights)

So here is the scenario—after a good furball we overrun a base and “most” enemy fighters stop upping and regroup at a different field. (As they should) But there is that ONE guy that just keeps upping non-stop like 30+ times.

Can someone enlighten me as to why a person would be upping continuously “alone” on a base capped by 8+ enemy fighters?  I mean what do they hope to accomplish with that?  Sure you might get a couple of guys to go bingo ammo –but you still have inbound—so the cap is never going to go bingo—you might get a couple of lawn darts and if your lucky maybe a kill shooter here and there—but REALISTICALLY—what are they hoping to accomplish?  (In this scenario there is no help in sight or on the way… so it’s not like he is keeping us low while the high cap arrives.)

Then what really gets me is the vuchee that incorporates SA and ACM into his game by “cleverly” switching up his spawn points or ruddering left on the runway.  C’mon!!!! It’s not going to work… You still have 10 guys circling your airfield!!!!

Now I know that vulches can be broken-up but you have to have some dedicated squadies/countrymen and numbers upping. Basically where you are putting fighters on the runway faster than they can be vulched-and preferably you also have a high cap that is inbound---but these “breakouts” are few and far between IMHO.

Now I understand that sometime we all get frustrated and might consider coming up a heavily vulched field or just do it for the fun of it—but I’m seeing the same guys doing it over and over again—most of them are actually in squads so they cant be total n00bs.  Is this fun for them?  There has to be another explanation to it… anyone… anyone…???

Because, while those 8+ fighters are swooping lower and lower to vulch that 1 sacrificial lamb, losing altitude and expending ammunition, the vulchee's buddies are upping from the other field and getting altitude.  I consider it a victory if I can tie up multiple enemies and keep them off my buddies' backs long enough for the counter-assault. :)

Think of it as the same thing as the TBM assault at Midway.  None of the planes made a successful attack, but they did manage to draw down the enemy fighter cover so that the Dauntlesses could swoop down unmolested and sink 3 carriers.  Sure, it was unplanned, but it worked.

I can remember a squad night a couple years ago, we decided to purposely destroy the ack at an enemy airfield, then set up for vulching, something I wanted to do to relieve some pressures we'd all faced in the last few weeks in our training...anyway, BD5 kept upping along with a couple others, and each squaddie landed with something like 10-14 kills a piece.  BD5 (flying under another handle, what was your handle back then?) got quite an introduction to AH that evening.

gofaster:

In my scenario above no help is inbound to that particular field—it has been abandoned due to arena dynamics… except for that ONE guy.

I won't EVER (well...almost) abandon a field. And you say what "gets" you is the ACMed vulchee.....heheheh...you have to experience the real thing. When an ACM-challenged vulcher makes its typical low angle approach, facing 4x20 Nik's cannons on the take off run....  :D

Of course, I won't say I'm the most helpful as for what Squad score is concerned... :p

Cheers,

4 words:

Rook cap, knight field.

Your statement is not true :D

REASON #209 (b): Why I up at a capped field where the "vulch light" is lit.

a) Been playing AW since early 80's in EGA GEnie.

b) Know that survival is nill.

c) Wife is nagging (ARE YOU DONE WITH THAT GAME YET??!!!)

d) Little Johnny, pulling on shirt sleeve asking; "DAD! DAD! CAN WE GO GET ICE-CREAM NOW? CAN WE? CAN WE? CAN WE?  DAD? DAD!!! ARE YOU LISTENING?"

c) Door bell ringing (pick one: Jehovah's, salesman, in-laws, neighbor kids)

d) You just want a quick 5 minute AH fix,, no long winded, hi-planning required interdiction flight.

e) Being killed over n' over n' over on liftoff gives you a sour enough mood to shut the F&%$*'ing PC off and face the challenges of A thru C (above) with proper attitude (fists clenched, and GET THE WHACKING STARTED!!!)

I hope this says it all?

I remember the instance where Pongo decided to teach vulchers a lesson. He organized about 20 people to a vulched field where 7~8 enemies were vulching. We were shortly briefed, got our planes ready...

.. and then Pongo counted down .."On three.. 1.. 2.. 3!!"

20 or so people, all in N1K2s launched at the same time, about 5 or so people were vulched, but ultimately, we creamed the people who thought they'd get easy kills :D

Aww man, I still imagine what their expressions would have been when they see 20 N1K2s launch in front of their faces and start ganging up on them.

I remember that one time on Mindanao, when the Bish had shut down our field good - even killed all the FHs. Vulch cap was thin with 2 LA-7 and a Spit.

So I up this IL-2 w/50% fuel, from the runway. First LA7 attacks from the front - -  the EXACT front, and I hose him down while rolling.

Nearly pissing myself laughing im just up as the second LA7 comes in from behind blows by my cockpit as i simply roll 360 degrees... to get nailed by my MGs at 75 yards.

Spit augers behind me.

To avoid other incoming cons, i sneak to the nearest friendly field NOE, laughing all the way...

5 or 6 guys vulching a field.  Noone around but me in the tower.  I think... well what the heck.  So I up... get vulched and repeat until I finally get airborne and can manuver then I get shot down.  I repeat this until finally against all odds I manage to get a kill in a zeke.  Its sooo worth it. :-)
