First off, I'm using the latest version of SST with WinXP Pro.  Everything is fine except this:

When I look back over my shoulder in a 45 deg. view using the 8-way hat switch (Programmed to be "5 3" or "5 1", left and right shoulder, per keymap within game) the view get stuck there occasionally, not consistently, but occasionally.  Is this because I should have used "Macro" instead of the programming the view with a 5+3, or 5+1?

It sticks programmed back right (3). To the point I had to up the Clipboard to get back to fwd view.

Not much fun to fly if it isn't all in order so I uninstalled the new drivers. I caught myself looking at hoopty twisty sticks tonight shopping and made the obvious choice. WIN98SE and a second reformat tonight completely killing XP for good.

I loved alot of XP features, but the refresh rate i couldn't set as it defaults every game you load, and the Saitek disaster was the clincher.

How about setting the zero view as forward.  That way when you release the hat switch it will issue an order to look forward.

It's a possible fix OZ, but the ultimate solution is better than trying the trail fixes. Good info, but Im going with the 'what works' plan.

It's really not that bad. Annoying to all hell, yes. Reformat and SE is pale in comparison.

i tried an x45 yesterday (most of yesterday in fact:mad: ). I started with the views hanging up on the wrong axis, i fixed that problem by stickmaping the views instead of using the stick's software. What I couldnt fix (hence my saitek blue's post) was the stick working fine in control panel, but when I come into the game, one button, not the same button each time, would be sensed as depressed. I couldnt come in the game clean! I took the stick back and got the toy-looking thrustmaster afterburner. All I really wanted was the rudder off the stick. Anyway, programmed and up and running. Had to download latest software to make it work though.

good luck! I did like the saitek x45 feel! couldnt put up with another day of cross looks from the wife rofl.

I have been using X45 since last December and with XP Pro since Feb with little problems. Here's my approach -

Use Dhauzimmer's Drivers and Haphazard's HazardScript to program the X45. These are available at - http://saitekhelp.simhq.com/

When installing the drivers, you MUST follow all of the directions on the above website.

Using HazardScript, I use only DX key assignments for the X45 and then use the AH Keymapping functionality to map the DX key assignments.

The limitations to this approach are that you cannot use the rotary knobs. That's it.

I will post my HazardScript file when I get home this evening.

Sour, tried that route. I had no success getting winXP to recognize those drivers (D's) but of course that was before updating critical files in WinXP...I have approx. 20 hours trying to get the stick work as it is...I think I'll be satisfied with this minor nuance. But thank you anyway!

I have little problems out of the X45 since December when I got mine.   I wish I could use the Rotaries, but I heard that Xp makes em useless.  Hopefully they will work when Strike Fighters comes out 9-18-02:D

Thanks Sour, all is good, as I took the time and did the driver update.

 I have a few issues with key commands on the downloaded AH keys, but pretty solid all around concidering.

I've got 16 hrs invested trying to get my X45 stick working... only 6 more to go using Rip's standard.  (BTW OS is XP)  I went the Dhauzimmer's Driver route but I can't get the hazardscript to compile.  I like the approach you mentioned in your post. Could you post your script so I can compare it with what I'm doing?  

Thanks in advance.. getting tired of only being able to look forward, left, or right! Hope I can get this thing working soon.

Rip... did you ever get it all fingered out yet?

Neg low pass...just waiting on the next SST release due end of this month for the rotary's and regarding the view keys, I'm getting fast on the esc key to right itself.

I can't wait that long.  Can't let Drill down this Friday on TOD!
I can't seem to beg, borrow, or steal a working Aces High X45 hazardscript.  I think I'll nuke the Dhauzimmer driver and return to the Saitek solution. (Theory being... "if it works for you, it should work for me...")  Ha! We will see!
