Re-balancing the current setup Slot 43
« on: September 17, 2002, 01:45:48 AM »
CT goers,

As I have said before, when I am doing setups I am trying to create a historic flair with balanced gameplay in mind.  This is the whole reason I limited the N1K2J to the rear airfields.   My goal was to make a single modification to the arena, see how it stems out, then reevalute the setup.

I will be the first to admit that when a post starts with something to the effect of "well your intentionally screwing the IJN again.", I barely give it the time of day.  However, when anyone gives gives good constructive feedback on why they think something sould be changed and how the current setup imbalances gameplay or the item is unhistorical, I pay attention.  My usual plan of action is to begin doing some research to try to confirm any facts stated in the argument.  Then based on what I find. I look at gameplay, and do my best to come up with a fix.

Based on user inpu tand my assessment, HERE IS MY SECOND MODIFICATION TO THE SETUP

I still stand by the limiting of the N1K2J.  It was the right thing to do for gameplay <--according to jarbo.  Anyone who read my previous post knows that I was attempting to balance gameplay for BOTH sides.  I even went so far as to explain that I would even re-evalute the change to see if it had the desired effect, and if not make another modification.  I don't expect to deliver a perfect product the first time, only the best one I can at the time.

THE P51B:  As stated in other posts, I cant find anything to support the P51B being in the Solomon area or anywhere close at the time, i added to give varity, but it detracts from the Historical immersion and it really isn't needed to give the allies a fighting chance.  Therfore, P51B will be removed from the Slot 1943 setup as of this post.

THE P47D11:  Second, the 348th Fighter group was stationed at Port Moresby in June of 43.  My setup is geared around fighting in the Solomon Islands in the latter part of '43.  I don't think its unreasonable to allow it limited play from a hypothetical sense.  This would be as if it had been forward deployed to the southern tip of the Solomons for a big push.  So the P47 will be enabled at ONE rear allied airfield.

THE NAVIES:  This is not meant to be a pure Naval dominance setup.  Carrier groups had the LVTs disabled on them to try to discourage folks from wanting to park them right off shore from an enemy airfield.  I will be disabling manned guns to further discourage use of the carrier fleet itself as an offensive weapon.  Airpower will be the sole use of the carrier task groups.  The destroyer groups will still be fully able to shell the shore and spawn LVTs.  In addition, fleet downtime will be increased to 1.5 hours.  Therefore, protect your carriers!

THE F6F:  I will not modify their current inclusion.  VF-33 operated them in the Solomon Islands from August 43 to Jan 44.  Don't like the F6F IJN pilots.... Go find and sink the Princeton and deny its use for an hour and a half.

These will be my final changes to this setup on this rotation.

Thanks for the changes.

F6Fs are easy meat for the A6M5b.

Now the F4F on the other hand....

As a primarily Axis player, this sounds very good to me.  Sadly I doubt that I will have much time the next couple nights to give it the try I would like.

I hope this setup is rotated back with these changes.

Thanks for the hard work Jarbo.  I know we can be a bit caustic sometimes.  This link might help.

Geez thanks Jarbo, I didnt think it would be modified, I hope you didnt mind all the "banter", for me it was mainly just pointing out to a few nay sayers about some setups for 1943, I dont agree with every single CT setup, but they are always fun.

Thanks again!, and we will be flying the CT as always.

Jarbo

Thanks for making the adjustments.  I'm anxious to give it a whirl.
I think you did a good job maintaining variety but limiting each sides's late war plane's ability to dominate.

But, the proof is in the pudding so we'll see you all tonight!

Can't wait until the time comes to actually model the 1943 Hellcat and Lightning.  The versions we have are July 1944 versions (both of them.)
