Did anybody notice that the WB3 beta is out?

I downloaded it yesterday, just to give it a try. I was noy very impressed. For one to try the beta out online, you have to buy an account. Its not free like aces was in beta. Secondly, its buggy as hell. I don't know why they called it a beta test , but its more like an early alpha. The graphics are just jacked. Most of the menus don't work . all of the skins are missing from the planes, and there are a lot of graphical glitches. Has anyone else tried it and had these problems? Just curious. I am stickin with Aces.

1.  It's a beta.  Of course it will have problems.  Comparing to Aces High at this point is not fair or useful.

Personally, I don't read the OT board and most poeple don't . I consider the OT board for things like which video card is better or some chevy vs ford argument. I think anything flight sim related has a place in General Discussion thread. I am not a "Warbirds shill" whatever that means, as i never played warbirds and after trying the beta test i probably never will.

What never ceases to amaze me is that there are poeple that are so anal that they don't want to read a post that they think is on the wrong board, but they will take the time to slam the person for posting something they don't think belongs on the board.

Regardless, I pay my money for Aces every month and I will continue to post anything i see as relevant on this board. If you dont want to read it, dont click on the topic.

P.S. for funked. Of course beta software is not supposed to be perfect, but it is supposed to be playable. I have participated in many beta tests, including the one for aces high. The Warbirds3 test was absolutely unplayable and was an alpha at best.

Gunslayer: Think you are failing to meet the minimum specs for WBIII (they are ridiculously high btw).  What you are describing (missing skins, menus not working etc) are what I see too on my poor old voodoo II and 64meg machine but not what my squaddies see on their Geforce thingies with 256meg. (ps the menus do work but I cant see any labels or buttons, my more fortunate squaddies can.)  sorry for this OT post but I thought I might be able to help.

If you've got a Voodoo 5500 card, don't bother (or at least shut your eyes to the weired rainbows). If you've got a GForce2+ (and the bandwidtch to download it) then it's worth a look. At least off-line. Will it be as good as the iEN staff promise? Yes, but not yet...

Oh yeah, if you can afford a good card and processor (like mine PIII-800 with GeForce2 GTS) the new brand-W is great. Planes are beautiful (if you can play at 1600x1200 and 32bit they are simply oustanding) but the gunnery model is a nitemare for me. Cant hit anything even at 50yds with those red tennis balls   And the more I play WB, the more I miss the AH 3D views system

Ya I only glanced at the minumum requirements. I just assumed it would run because I have a really fast system. Here are my specs.

1 gigahertz athlon thunderbird
128mb ram
Asus A7V
40 gig Ultra ATA 100 HD
50x CD rom drive
Voodoo 3 3000
Cable Modem

I know the voodoo is the weak link in my chain right now. I have a geforce 2 scheduled for delivery today   Maybe I will give it a another chance after I plop that it.
