atx micro case and a7n266vm?

hello there I have a computer I want to upgrade for my mom. It is a old emonster 500 with a 120 w micro atx power supply. I want to use a a7n266vm in it but am under the impression that amd xp processors require at least 250 w power supplys. the highest atx micro power supply i can find it a 200w . anyone know if this is sufficient ?

Your power supply is not gonna support an XP processor or really anything else for that matter, just bite the bullet and go buy a new case/power supply.  They only cost like $50 anyway, and you can get one with a 350w power supply

that is what i figgured but i noticed they make Emachines in athalon xp 1900/2000  they do that with a 150 w supply ? how the hell is that possible? or is it .

Might be possible if they used on-board sound and video with only 1 HD and 1 CD... but I can't imagine it would be super stable.

Seems 250w would be a minimum for that setup... 300w if you have a video card.

E-machines are pure crap, they utilize the cheapest components available, really for that matter ANY retail computer is crap.  Compaq,Dell,Gateway,IBM,Sony etc etc. all integrated most components onto the motherboard, IE sound,video.  So yes they do not need as hefty as a power supply, hell when I worked at gateway we had a P4 2.0ghz that ran off of a 150 watt power supply.

Micro ATX mobo's are designed to work with the smaller power supplies.
Having some functions integrated on the chip, and only having 3 PCI slots reduces the potential demand for power. If your mom isn't into gaming, a micro atx box could be just the ticket. Do a google search for Shuttle SS40G or SS51 for starters.

My wife's next box will be a Shuttle SFF box (when they release the Athlon XP version). I am one of those that refuse to pay the price for an Intel CPU-I'd rather spend the price difference on more memory or a larger HD.

just buy an AMD approved power supply. No need to get a new case.  I've never heard of a MicroATX power supply, case yes, PS no.

I'm waiting for the Shuttle Nforce2 FlexATX barebone.. When it gets out I'm gonna get one. Leave this 1.9XP+KT266A+H2O cooling setup for my wife..

Just built a small case pc w. that motherboard and an old athlon 1.4 gig i had lying around - PSU was rated 145w.  Been stable for two months.
