Well they had pretty sexy fuel injection with throttle bodies for each cylinder and lots of pumps and fuel lines.  I think I've seen all the GPL cars in person except for the BRM with the H-16.  They are sexy to me.  :)

Ahh .. GPL.

'Tis a siren ..it draws from your skill entirely.

No aero, bias-ply tires, no pit stops, ..*very* overpowered go-carts they were in '67.

It was the most dangerous year to be an F-1 driver.
Just blipping the throttle anywhere will get you in trouble.

So the question you must ask yourself is: ..How 'smooth' can you be?
You can spend days at Monza just learning the Parabolica ..set the drift and control it entirely with throttle as you exit to the straight.. a wonder when it's done right :)

How sharp are you on setting a car up?
Keep the back end straight behind you on hard braking, and twitch it out to set the drift when you want, where you want, and how much you want. You must learn the art of sway bar adjustments to setup a car that matches how you drive.

Spa .. ooh babee .. I love the high speed sweepers there.
The dodge and dart through the esses.. tires squealing all the way at 165-170mph .. topping out at 200mph not once, but several times as you setup the next sweeper.

Throttle control .. man when you get it right and control the traction circle .. that go-cart will really fly :)

A couple of tips to learn cornering in GPL.

1. Practice.
2. Slow in, fast out. Rather brake 50 meters to early, than 5 meters too late, as you'll gain more time by learning to accelerate out of a turn, than being good on the brakes.
3. Practice.
4. Forget about Monza. Only noobs and dweebs drives it. A track like Watkins Glen or Rouen will teach you much more about driving.
5. Practice.
6. The Brabham is probably the best car to learn in. In the Lotus and Eagle, you won't as you will just learn to rly on the cars speed to the work for you. Ferrari is also good to learn in, but suffers badly from understeer, leading into snap-oversteer. (It got the best engine sound, though).
7. Practice.

My Favourite car in GPL... The Cooper!  (Coventry in game)  real easy to drive, easy to toss around in corners no real bad habits at all.  And it can and will sting the loti and ferrari drivers at the lower speed tracks.

Favourite track(defaults)...  tough call  Tied between Zandvoort, Mosport, and the Ring I guess.

I played GPL for longer than any other boxed game I have ever owned.  Nowadays its finding the time to be able to concentrate for x amount of time uninterrupted thats the problem.

If you are interested in Grand Prix Legends(no finer driving sim exists) and want to join an online GPL League, go here  http://www.speedgeezers.com/   and look for G.R.O.W.L in the Forums section.   GROWL is a league comprised of WB's, AH, WWIIOL,  and IL-2 sim players and are currently in our 6th Season of good, clean, no-flame online racing.

Actually... according to what I've read, GP4 does NOT support multiplayer on the internet - only on a LAN w/ maybe 2 player over TCP/IP.

F1 2002 has both.

In related news, just read that the MicroProse UK studio that made GP4 has been shut down.

F1 2002 arrived today - I'll post some impressions once I've had a couple of days to play it.

Dont feel so low if you cant stay on track fellas. 16 laps should pass because after that it gets repetetive. In real F1, the cars run Tuleon (exotic heavy dense five star molecule fuel) and the drivers drink Avion. Oh yeah, and take cold showers every morning.

PS: I crash in GP3 all the time, I suck at it. lol

GP4 does support Multiplayer over TCP/IP. i went into the muliplayer menu myself and only option available was TCP/IP multiplayer support, I did not see LAN  option. So i assume that it does support multiplay over TCP/IP, i've never played mulitplayer myself, and i dont know how well it works.

Yeah, I *think* it is only 2 player internet, but I'm having a hard time finding any information on it, actually, so it could be more.

For some reason reviews don't mention the multiplayer for either of these.  I'm trying to trade for a copy of GP4, so if I land one, we'll have to try the multiplayer out and see for ourselves.

Got some time in w/ F1 2002 last night, and I think it is incredible - the 'work in progress' demo seems to have been just that - a work in progress.  The full version has better graphics, better performance, more detailed tracks... the sense of speed is terrific!

I spent a couple of hours at Monza last night, which was fun because I watched a replay of the Grand Prix of Italy at Monza on Speed TV sunday, and the first chicane IS a brutal sonovasqueak (there's no way you could take it at 71mph, as the graphic at FIA indicates).

VERY fun!

GPL should be here in a day or two (along w/ my new wheel, which didn't arrive yesterday as expected :(), so I'll practice up and then you guys can show me a thing or two!

Just found this on GP4:

MultiPlayer Gameplay
Several modes exist:
LAN - connection for up to 8 players (PC only)
Hotseat mode - the users take turns to drive the same car around the track.
Split screen - Up to 4 players can play in the brand new split screen mode. (Xbox only). Up to 2 players can play split screen PC or Xbox.
Modem-modem - Allows to players to connect via a direct modem connection (PC only)
Serial link - Allows 2 players to connect via a serial link connection (PC only)

Dunno... maybe the TCP/IP is for a modem-modem connection?
